EL UR eS Hamre committed to a strong Durham East - by Diane Hamre, Liberal - Durham East The Liberal government made a committment to .he people of On- tario to be an open and accessible government. The Peterson govern- ment honoured that committment and will continue to do so. The people of Ontario have many concerns and it is only with a healthy economy that we can ensure that those concerns will be addressed. We must support David Peterson and his stand on the six (6) condi- tions Ontario will insist upon before considering any free trade agree- ment with the U.S. By ensuring that Canadian policies are decided by the Canadian people and not dictated by U.S. interests, we will protect jobs in Ontario. We will not become tenants in our own country. As a Liberal member for Durham East on David Petersons team, I feel there must be a full-time com- mittment to continuing the Liberal governments' cleaning up of the en- vironment, increasing the affor- dable housing supply, attaining new standards of excellance and relevance in our education and ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS RICHARD HONEY ELECTR C Pole Line Construction INDUSTRIAL COMMERCIAL RESIDENTIAL R.R.1, Port Perry, Ontario 985-9364 Pole Line Service R.R.2, PORT PERRY BUSINESS DIRECTORY GEE ELECTRIC MOTOR SERVICE Sales, Repairs & Rewinding to All Motors. We in Durham East need the Peterson government to be able to continue the Liberal committment to tripling the capital funding for schools so that we may drastically reduce the number of portables in our area. We need the Liberal government's increased grant pro- grams to municipalities so that we may clean up unsafe water supplies in areas like Brooklin and Courtice. We need the continuance of the Liberal government's offering retraining programs and adequate childcare spaces so that our families receive a hand up, not a hand out. We need to ensure that the Auto Pact is not opened up, and to protect the jobs of workers across the Durham East riding. Myrtle Labour Day Weekend is the time for the Myrtle Church to hold their annual pie sale. For a weekend treat or for your freezer this is the time to enjoy cherry, apple, strawberry and strawberry-rhubarb and raisin pies. Friday and Saturday will be sale days at the church in Myrtle. Square dance lessons will begin September 16 in the basement of Myrtle Church. This is modern square dancing under the leadership of Bill Robertson. Square dancing is excellent theory for people wanting to keep active and for couples who want to do something together. Call Laurel Hamer 655-4492 for information. The second Sunday in September will be the first church service of the season following the summer closure. Myrtle has an excellent minister in Rev. lan MacRury, a good speaker who gives a short ad- dress each Sunday with much to think about on modern day-to-day living. It is important that our church be here for us for the times when we need marrying and bury- ing as well as the good and bad times in-between. Myrtle Church needs the support of the people living in the area. This vear will YOU make it a priority to join the community in keeping the Myrtle Church healthy and serving the area in which we live.
