26 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, September 9, 1987 Near record number of exhibitors Holstein The 50th anniversary of the On- tario County Holstein Show was celebrated in grand fashion Monday at the Port Perry Fair with a near record number of exhibitors. The 1987 show attracted 43 ex- hibitors showing 157 animals. The only time in the 50 year history of this event when there were more animals on show was in 1960 when 169 Holsteins were displayed. Of special interest for this 50th an- niversary show was an Open House display tent which had many in- teresting items outlining the history Show celebrates of this fine exhibition of dairy cattle Prominent in the Open House was a photo and testimony to the late R.M. (Bob) Holtby who was in- strumental in organizing the first "Black and White" Show at Port Perry Fair in 1938. Mr. Holtby, who passed away just six years later in 1944, believed in the idea of a closed County Show, and it wasn't long before other Counties in Southern Ontario were using this format for their own shows. That first County Show at the Port A special 50th anniversary Holstein Show Herdsman's Award was presented to Brad Howsam of Els Rock Holsteins of Green- bank. The presentation was made by Ag. Rep Bill Baxter at right. PORT PERRY MINOR HOCKEY REGISTRATION at the Fair this year Perry Fair back in 1938 attracted 17 exhibitors and 118 head of cattle.
