x i § f A TF mm------_--------~ Wednesday night Horticultural Society chrysanthemum show Ashburn and Area News The Brooklin Horticultural Socie- ty will meet this Wednesday even- ing at 8:00 p.m. at Brooklin United Church. As they were unable to have the Chrysanthemum and Vegetable Show at Fairview Lodge this year, they have decided to include it with this meeting. Please refer to your show book on page 24 for the Divi- sions and Classes. The September meeting will feature a Spring Bulb Workshop and Sale. Ken Brown will lead the workshop and all aspects of bulb culture will be addressed. The highlight of the evening will be the opportunity for all those attending to plant either a pot of narcissus or tulips for forcing this winter. Spring bulbs will be for sale, and will be priced at slightly above wholesale cost. An excellent opportunity to get the more unusual bulbs at prices too good to pass up. Looking ahead to Saturday, November 14, there will be a workshop featuring Christmas Decorations. This event will be held at Burns Church, Ashburn. The workshop/seminar will start at 9:30 a.m. and finish at 2:00 p.m. A hot luncheon will be served. This year is the first time the Brooklin Horticultural Society have held a Photography Contest. Please remember that entries must he sub- mitted by October 27 to any member of the executive. There will be an Arts and Crafts programme for Group 74, Brooklin, with registration on Thursday, September 24 at the Oddfellow's Hall from 8:00 - 9:30 p.m. Open house and registration. Some of the by Florence Ashton courses being offered are: folk art, folk art I1, bridge, calligraphy, knit- ting, water colours, wreath making (3 week programme), and Christmas potpourri (3 week pro- gramme). All other courses are 8 weeks. The course is being held at the Oddfellow's Hall, Brooklin, and will commence on Thursday, Oc- tober 8. Forms will be available at Ashburn Store, Brooklin Mill and the Brooklin Library. For further in- formation, you may call Betty Catherwood at 655-3646. Rev. McEntyre's sermon title last Sunday morning was "Living in the Household of God." His text being from St. John 14, verse 2. Doug Ashton and Ruth Oliver read the scripture lessons. The Senior Choir sang 'Face to Face."" The Sacra- ment of Holy Communion will be celebrated at Burns on Sunday, Oc- tober 4. In the evening at 7:30 p.m. the Eleanor Knight Group of the W.M.S. will hold their Fall thank-offering. The theme is Youth with guest speaker Karen McAndless, who is presently a student at Knox College. A number of our young people will be assisting in the service. Plan to be with us. Burns Church 138th Anniversary is on Sunday, October 18 at 11:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Rev. Robert Spencer from Crieff Hills is the guest minister. Special music at both services.
