Nestleton Presbyterian Church Rev. Fred Swann conducted the regular church service at 10 a.m. in Nestleton Presbyterian Church with Mrs. Joyce Taylor presiding at the organ. Psalm 119: 1-16 was read - - also Psalm 1 and Ephesians 2: 1-10. Rev. Swann announced that he would be starting a series of studies on the Book of Psalms... He com- menced with Psalm 1 ... an introduc- tion to the Psalms which contain a wealth of instruction and guidance. The floral arrangements were in memory of Scott Williams, and the sympathy of the congregation was expressed to the family. Services will continue at 10 a.m. through the month of October. Birthday Celebrated In Style Last Sunday, September 20, Norm & Bernice Mairs of Nestleton, at- tended a surprise 65th birthday celebration in honour of Bernice's brother Lewis Kent of Sundridge. The event was held at Hotel Bernard commencing with a sumptuous buf- fet for 75 friends and relatives. Two of the honoured guests grand- daughters sang one of his favourite songs, entitled, "Two Little Girls In Blue' accompanying themselves on Auto Harps. His two daughters had composed a song, which they sang to honour their beloved Dad. Two young men rendered a number in tribute to the Lumbering operation Preparing volunteers to work with the blind and visually impaired CNIB York-Durham Office and the Whitby Community Care will be conducting a direct service _volunteer training program this November. This course is designed to prepare volunteers to work with visually impaired and blind residents of the area on assignments such as visiting, shopping and driv- ing. Further training is available to prepare volunteers to work direct- ly with our Rehabilitation Specialists. These volunteers specialize in the para-rehabilitation, para-mobility or case aid areas. The instruction will be provided by Dave Gregory, District Administrator for the York-Durham area and Mrs. Marie Brooks-Smyth, Ad- ministrator of the Whitby Communi- ty Care. Marie is also the Vice Chairman and Volunteer Coor- dinator of the CNIB Durham Region Advisory Board. To top it off...the emcee read some amusing anecdotes re- hap- penings in earlier years in Lewis' life. Later, the guests retired to the recreation room to renew acquain- tances and reminisce about days gone by, and wrapped up the 'gala' party with some video-tapes...of old beloved movies. A very thrilling 65th celebration for Lewis...a mile-stone in his life. All the best to a great guy, and we wish him many more enjoyable bir- thday parties. Nestleton United Church An excellent congregation at Nestleton United on Sunday morn- ing, September 27, at 11:15 a.m. with Lawrence & Gwendolyn Malcolm greeting at the door. Rev. Dale Davis conducted the service and received into the Church by transfer, Chuck & Carol Hill and son Matthew of Scugog Point. Clerk of Session Lawrence Malcolm assisted the minister. We welcome the Hills into our church family...and Com- munity of faith. The minister introduced the Rev. Gordon & Leona Taylor of the "Thomas Crosby United Church Mission Boat' to the pulpit. They presented an interesting in depth look into their Mission work on the B.C. Coast. We appreciate hearing about the work! "Will Your Anchor Hold' was sung at the close of their discourse! Mrs. Taylor had a story for the S. School pupils as well. Mrs. Gwen Malcolm - organist. The floral arrangements enhanc- ing the sanctuary were placed in memory of Scott Williams. She warm- ly welcomed those present to the meeting and called on Winnifred Davison for the Devotional. Scrip- ture was from Luke 16: 1-10, and the theme entitled, 'No Small Task" based on thoughts from "Our Daily Bread' was nicely presented. She closed with Prayer. The Roll Call was answered by a verse of Scripture. Minutes were ap- proved as read. During cor- respondence birthday cards were signed for Russell Brown and Rev. Fred Swann. A get well was signed for Mrs. Dora Gillson. During business, a discussion was held and arrangements completed for the luncheon on Anniversary Sunday. The ladies decided to order calen- dars again this year. The meeting adjourned and over a tempting lunch served by Dorothy Lee and Mamie Magill, a lovely social time was enjoyed. Visit Enjoyed A former Minister, Rev. & Mrs. C.W. Hutton of Brooks, Alberta, called at the Lawrence Malcolm home on Tuesday. They were ac- companied by Mr. and Mrs. H. Mar- tyn of Blackstock. Mr. and Mrs. R. Sadler of Nestleton, were also pre- sent. All enjoyed renewing friend- ships and reminiscing about changes in the Nestleton Church Community since the 1950's. Sympathy Extended Our heartfelt sympathy to Arnold & Jean Williams from the Nestleton Community in the loss of son Scott this past week.
