To Ah hi Durham Y still has room in some of its programs The Durham Region Family YM- CA offers a broad range of pro- grams, courses and activities designed to appeal to all ages and tastes. Now that the Fall Registra- tion is almost complete we would like to mention some of our new and returning programs that still have room available. For adults, the Ladies Shape-Up program in Blackstock has just started and meets Monday evenings -at Cartwright P.S. from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. One of our more popular pro- grams, Ladies Take-A-Break, meets on Wednesday mornings at the Anglican Church from 9:30 - 11:30. A wide range of speakers and events are planned for this session including such items as interior decorating, Xmas crafts, Parent Burn-Out, Car Care for Women and a Fashion Show. Baby-sitting is of- fered so come out and see what Port Perry and area has to offer. Our 2nd Annual Fashion Show is taking place Nov. 4 at the United Church Auditorium. Once again Marcia Wilkinson from Designer Look will present her designer fashions at affordable prices. The music again will be provided by Ir- win Smith. This event proved to be very popular last year and all monies raised were used to pur- chase mats for our Judo program. Tickets are now available at the "Y'" office or by calling 985-2824. Mothers! Dress up your pre- schoolers (ages 3 to 6) in their Hallo- ween costumes and bring them to our party at the "'Y'. We will have crafts, games, treats, movies and a costume parade. A safe Halloween environment is lots of fun especial- ly for the younger members of the family. Call the YMCA at 985-2824 to register for this party. Tiny Tots allows children ages 18 to 36 months to play with mom or dad. Explore the activity stations, listen to a story, sing songs and make special crafts. A wonderful social time for you and your pre- schooler. Our two newest programs are also still taking registrations. Wrestling for boys ages 9-14 runs on Thursday evenings from 4:30 - 8:00 at PPHS. This course is great to impress upon boys the fitness involved and the discipline needed to wrestle competitively. Our Dance classes will begin Oct. Honeydale W.I. October meeting by Lillian Harper P.R.O. The October meeting of Honeydale W.I. was very well at- tended, though we do regret some were absent due to illness. Our president, Mabel Cawker opened the meeting by reading a thought provoking piece "Fiive most important words." Since this was 'Agriculture and Canadian Industry' meeting the roll call was " Name a local industry you would like to visit' which brought forth a good variety of © answers. Following the reading of the minutes of the September meeting and the treasurer's report, our at- tention was drawn to the great need for funds for the A.C.W.W. Plans were discussed concerning means of raising money for this organization, . perhaps a bazaar. Our Christmas meeting will con- sist of an item of program provided by each group. Mary Cannon is to be our delegate to the ko the convention ths Pall. "=o this Fall. BUS SCH REPORT IF THERE'S A DELAY FOR WHATEVER REASON, YOU'LL HEAR ABOUT IT ON CKLY 910 Covering Central Ontario A Public Service of the Port Perry Star, CKLY Radio, Scugog, Simcoe, Stockway, Lee Wilfred Vine and Freeman Bus Lines. Clara Warren announced that tickets are available to see the show "Funny Girl" at the Academy Theatre in Lindsay, Nov. 12, 13 or 14, with a bus load, hopefully! Also, a mystery trip was booked for Monday, Oct. 5. Honeydale W.1. won second prize on their exhibit at the Port Perry Fair. The group led by Evelyn Stephens was in charge of the program for the day. Marion Johnston led in an ex- cellent questionnaire concerning the Agriculture industry in Canada. We found the most information, also fin- ding out how much we didn't know about this most important industry. We appreciate the gift from Edda Bowman, who was our guest at the September meeting, a framed pic- ture done in her special art of "quill- ing," which is to be sold at our bazaar. As usual, we enjoyed a social time together with a lovely lunch and cup of tea at the close of the meeting. 14at 6:30 p.m. at R.H. Cornish. For the first 10 week session we are of- fering 2 levels of jazz. Children ages 4-7 will attend from 6:30 to 7:00 and those ages 8-12 will go from 7:00 to 7:30 p.m. The course will be taught by Candy Stevenson and we are ex- cited about finally getting a dance program in place. Hopefully we will expand upon it after Xmas. The YMCA is presently planning some activities for the Christmas Break Holidays. Tentatively day- long programs will run Dec. 21-23 and Dec. 28-30. Programs of events will be available soon from the YM- CA office. For more information about these programs or to register call the YM- CA office at 985-2824 between 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. or 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. Music exams The following students of Mrs. Lynda Page, ARCT, RMT tried their exams at the Royal Conser- vatory examination centres in Lind- say, Blackstock and Oshawa.
