YP ---- 20 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, November 3, 1987 Epsom and Area News by Jean Jeffery Cute little goblins and witches knocked on my door Saturday even- ing. You were all beautiful and so polite, please come again. For the past three weeks the Asl- ings, Postmas and Pages have been planning a fun car rally and Satur- day night the -cars left Epsom Church to find historic buildings and the date they were erected. One car load got lost but eventually found their way back. One lady lost her purse when they got out of the car at the Jericho Farm. The owner found it and it was picked up on Sunday. Several found the love tunnel but couldn't find the year it was built. I wonder why? All added to our popular Shoe tree someone counted over 35 shoes now accumulated. There was a tie for the time | believe the winners were Frank and Donna. | really believe the fourth group enjoyed the sport too. Our Epsom 4H girls and Bethesda Reach 4h girls attended the Achievement Day at Latcham Cen- tre, Port Perry on Saturday. Several ladies were there to cheer them on. There were thirteen groups participating. Bethesda girls had one member dressed as a pumpkin. The com- mentator for the group told how to grow pumpkins and many of their uses. She also said in early days many families survived on mainly pumpkins and turnip when meat was scarce. (dried pumpkin, no glass jars or plastic containers). ARLENE'S TOUCH at MONTE CARLO HAIR SALON introduces new MGEL A NAIL" A light cured gel process to give a natural looking nail in minutes. They will honour those residents who have a birthday in November. The Epsom-Utica charge had their annual anniversary at Utica Church on Sunday. Rev. Nancy Waterman delivered a beautiful message, while all the children had Sunday School in their rooms which are so beautiful since they have been transformed for 'Day Care." The Junior Choir sang most beautifully, then the Senior Choir of- fered an Anthem. Thanks Bill for the solo part. It was most appreciated. After the service all enjoyed what was supposed to be a pot luck lunch, but it seemed to me more like an eight course dinner. A special thanks to the boys who carried all the chairs back up to the church. Norm and Betty Tapscott attend- ed a 75th birthday party for Mr. Gor- don Miles of Stouffville on Sunday. Dr. and Mrs. Jerrold Asling of Hanover visited with his parents for the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Noakes of Sandford and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wilson had dinner on Saturday with Elmer and Ruth Wilson. Recent visitors with Mrs. Ruth Ashton were Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Searle of Kedron, Julie Ashton and friend Clay Dempsey, Nancy Hill, Kelly and Christopher. One day Mrs. Elmer Wilson and Ruth Ashton visited Mrs. Lucille Wagner. On their return they were greeted by Rose Evans. Rose had brought her daughter Anna and Tanya Wilson. The two wee ladies sang for Ruth. Of course Tanya's mother Beth and grandma Ruth Wilson listened in. Such acts of kind- ness brighten the day for Ruth who is blind and lives alone. Joe Wilson of Calgary spent a few nights with Earl and Marie Wilson while on a business trip to Toronto. Roy Wilson of Cobden was also an overnight guest. We older members of the country have not joined the rat race. We still » everal found community tunnel of love! like to visit and know where our friends are sick or celebrating a bir- thday. On Wednesday evening the Bethesda Reach Womens Institute met at the home of Mrs. Ross Evans. All answered the roll call with a headline from a newspaper.
