Nursing home news Klara guesses the right weight Well Halloween has come and gone for another year and I'm sure that all the little children are enjoy- ing all of their goodies. On Monday, October 26, our movie watchers gathered together to see 2 movies titled 'Bethune' and 'Railroad with a Heart of Gold." The next day we had a pumpkin hunt, a Bad Omen's Quiz and a discussion on Halloween. There was a very good participation in this area. Our contest of "Guess the weight of the Pumpkin" was won by Mrs. Klara Balling. The correct weight was 45 Ibs. In the evening the Non-Denominational Church pro- vided a service. On Wednesday the 28th we spent the afternoon making up goodie bags and also creating costumes for our Halloween Party. Thursday we had a special treat of two classes of school children who came in their Halloween costumes to parade for us. Thank you to all of the children from Mrs. Gill's class and Mrs. Watson's class and also to the parents who provided the rides. After enjoying all the great costumes the kids joined us to have some juice & cookies. In the even- ing we celebrated our Annual Hallo- ween Party. The theme for this year was wear a hat representing a Nursery Rhyme. There certainly was a lot of creative ideas. Enter- tainment started out with piano playing and a sing-a-long with Mr. Archie Walker. Then out came Mrs. Louise Hartney dressed as a clown and passed out candies. We then judged the costumes. 1st Prize: Becky Gray, 2nd: Joan Tuck, 3rd: Norman Sammells. We also danced the night away to the Glen Gibson Band that provided us with a varie- ty of music. After having a snack consisting of cheese, pickle and loaf trays with a glass of Witches Brew we sat back and watched the Amazing Magician Steve Hepburn performing unbelievable tricks. Although it was a late night, never-the-less everyone truly enjoyed themselves. A very big thank you to all who contributed in making the evening a big success. On Friday the 30th, the ladies were kept busy baking Candy Ap-. ples to hand out to the trick.or treaters. The men were busy af a Gab Session with Mr. Harvey" Easton. They had discussions on the present stock market situation, free trade talks and past Halloween pranks. They particularly enjoyed munching on popcorn and sipping away on beer or punch. To start off a new month on Mon- day November 2 we had bowling. EVERY VEHICLE PROTECTED Have Your Car Oiled! . *30. WITH OIL UNDERCOATING ..... Top scorer was Mr. Lionel Blaikie with 121 pts. Congratulations! Tuesday we were all extremely busy working on crafts. Some of us made up a bunch of reindeer tree or- naments while others worked on Xmas wreaths. After supper hour a church service was provided by the Port Perry Anglican Church. Wednesday we had a very in- teresting discussion group. Reincar- nation was our main topic that we talked about and then we discussed about the odd jobs that we hated to do when we were younger. The ma- jority hated piling wood or picking potato bugs. On Thursday morning some ladies baked up a variety of squares and then after lunch it was work time on crafts. Some were painting, some were quilting and some were covering cookie tins. During the evening some residents played euchre in the diningroom while others headed off to the Town Hall to see a musical. Although it was a late night everyone enjoyed the entertainment. Special thank you to the volunteer drivers. To end this week we had a bingo on Friday and afterwards I saw the Treat Wagon going through the halls passing out goodies to all the residents.
