No truck parking overnight Scugog Township council will not support a zoning change which would allow a tractor truck to be parked overnight and on weekends in a driveway in a residential neighbourhood. The request for the change came before council Monday afternoon from a Saintfield truck owner who has been parking the tractor cab in his driveway at his home for the past nine years. The truck owner wants the change to make the practise conform to zon- ing regulations in Scugog which for- bid trucks larger than one ton to be parked overnight in a residential zone. The owner informed council by letter he is willing to agree that should he sell his home, the original zoning would revert. The truck owner also filed a peti- tion with council containing several names of neighbours who don't ob- ject to the requested zoning change. Members of council were unanimous in their opposition to this. zone change request. "I think council would be opening the door for many other similar re- quests," said Mayor Jerry Taylor. Township administrator Earl Cuddie told council that to approve a request to park a truck in a residential zone would be "a serious departure from the zoning by-laws." He estimated there could be as many as 100 truck owners who would like to park their tractor cabs at home overnight and on weekends. A few years ago, the Township took a Prince Albert truck owner to court on more than one occasion after receiving complaints about a truck parked in his driveway overnight.
