PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, November 24, 1987 -- 33 ACTORS IN DRAGON AN ODD MIXTURE From a nine year old newcomer, through to a twenty-six year old award winner, to an "Over 45" veteran of Children's Theatre, the actors of Nobody Loves A Dragon are an odd bunch. They speak of growing close, of learning from both their directors and each other. Terry Hodgins has appeared in several plays for young people, and his performance here as a befuddl- ed old knight demonstrates his abilities. Like Vern Vogel, who plays the King, Terry likes to see the younger actors develop and grow. Vern Vogel however did some grow- ing on his own here. Without a cou- ple of plays under his belt, he has grown into a fine character actor, Another Vogel, fourteen year old Hailie is perfectly evil as a wicked sorceress. This marks Hailie's first major role, and she shares the spotlight with Fellow Villain Steve Foote. No stranger to theatre, Steve has acted in over twenty plays, in Oshawa, Toronto, Bowmanville, Ux- bridge and Port Perry. His singing ability here surprised no one more than himself. Together, Foote and Miss Vogel create a director's dream, sheer chemistry together at The "crystal ball" scene with Terry Hodgins sleeping right through it. Nine year old Corrine White is making her debut on the stage as the Prince who befriends the poetry spouting Dragon, played by Jennifer Fletcher. Both young ladies are big on talent, with strong voices, and natural abilities. Perhaps the most difficult role went to Zakeanna Reid who por- trays Imagination. With little script, Reid worked with director Chris Rollo's ideas, and John Foote's choreography to create a mysterious, stylistic dance. Also making their debuts are Jason Dawson and Michelle Morton as soldiers, Jazzine Reid as a jester, and Kim Rollo as the page. These young people learned that a role is important, no matter how small. to. The group displayed admiration for their directors Chris Rollo and John Foote, and special enthusiasm for musical director Deb Thompson. Good hard work and genuine closeness should make "Dragon" the success it deserves. Performances Friday at 7:30, Saturday after the parade, again Saturday night, 7:30 and Sunday afternoon at 2:00.
