On Friday December 18th, the doors of the Latcham Centre will swing wide to the grand opening of Tunes, the brainchild of Port Perry High School students Scott and Steve McEachern, and Mardy Edwards. Starting on the 18th, the Water St. hall will be transformed just about every Friday night (excepting nights when high school dances are held) into a dance club for those who don't have to drink to have fun, age 13 and up. The guys who have planned this say "It's going to be unreal," with $20,000 worth of lighting equipment and special effects, plus 4,000 selec- tions of the best in old and new music. - Different themes will be promoted at each dance, everything from beach parties, to dance marathons, to Egyptian nights. On the grand opening night, some brand new light effects will be introduced, along with spot dances, and door prizes. == ss ss. ss = PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, December 8, 1987 -- 19 Nightclub will open soon The music, of course, is being sup phied by Rebel DJ Service, a disc jockey business run by identical twins Steve and Scott for the last six years. Mardy, who has joined the team only recently, says he's in awe of the twins' dedication, and of the equipment and music they own. Scott and Steve (nicknamed Dr Dance and DJ Skor) are 18. Mardy, who doesn't have a nickname--yet, 1s only 15. Yet all three possess an almost eerie business sense that is bound to serve them well in their newest endeavour, Tunes. Not just your average teen dance, Tunes, they say, will have all the sophistication of a large-scale nightclub, and the boys are hoping parents will feel free to enjoy a night out as well. The War Ie Amputations A of Canada... Safety Is Saar No Accident Program They're opening Tunes on Friday night because for teenagers, its the best night possible to get out. Satur- day night, on the other hand is a traditional night out for adults--and many young people find themselves babysitting. Admission is $4 a person, and the nightclub will be open from 8 p.m. to midnight. A paid policeman will be on guard at all dances to make sure problems don't develop, and to keep booze away.
