14 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, January 26, 1988 Some people have all the luck, don't they? Marion Laird of Port Perry won't say she has ALL the luck, but she did think she was pretty lucky to win the recent Kinsmen Shopping Spree Honouring retired firefighter Wayne Bradt (centre) on January 23 was Scugog Hall No. 2 Chief Len Scott, Mrs. Elaine Bradt, and Scugog draw. ' She had purchased two tickets (one from Port Gifts, the other from Northern Clothing Company), but it only took one ticket, No. 604, to win her a $1,000 shopping spree in the 10 township. Councillors Lawrence Malcolm and Harvey Subdivision planned for Chalk Lake area Preliminary plans for a 33 lot" estate residential subdivision near Chalk Lake were presented to Scugog Township council on January 19. Ken May, a Stouffville realtor told council he represents the owners of an 84-acre parcel that stretches from the Whitby Town Line Road north to the southern shore of Chalk Lake. He said the parcel of land is about 2,000 feet east of Durham Road 23, and has a 160 foot access onto Chalk Lake. Mr. May told councillors that he would like to have some kind of in- dication of municipal support before in-depth studies, drawings and plans are started. He said the typography of the land, the soil conditions and the scenic views lend themselves to larger homes on lots in the 2-3 acre size range. In fact, he said in his opinion, other parcels of land west to Durham Road 23 are also suitable to this kind of residential development. Members of council listened to the presentation, but gave no indication of support or approval. Ward 3 coun- cillor Don Cochrane noted that if the plan was to get council's approval, there likely would be objections from property owners in the Chalk Lake area. He referred to a lengthy and costly Ontario Municipal Board hearing which was needed for final approval of the Oak Hills develop- ment on the north side of the Chalk Lake Road. In response, Mr. May said "we are prepared to go ahead (with the development) if council is convine- ed that any problems can be overcome.' Several members of council wanted to know exactly what plans would be in store for the frontage on Chalk Lake. Mr. May said he would very much prefer that the land fron- ting on Chalk Lake never be turned into a public park area, suggesting that if the development finally gets approval, the Township should ac- cept grants instead of parkland dedications. Graham. Mr. Bradt was presented with a special plaque and a brass schooner, a gift from the stores of her choice (from 35 local merchants who participated). Tickets for the Kinsmen fundrais- ing event went on sale in November and the draw was held on Christmas Eve. But it wasn't until January 6th that Marion hit the street to do some heavy shopping. She started at 10:15 a.m. in the 'place where she had bought the lucky ticket -- Northern Clothing Company. There she purchased a sweater, socks, "magic mitts" and - a knapsack. Her next stop was Gold 'n Glow, where she picked up a gold herr- ingbone chain. After that she walk- ed a few steps to Country Classics, where she chose a pair of blue cor: duroy pants. Luke's Country Store came next, where she 'bought' an oval mirror with oak frame. At 11:15 a.m. she was still going strong when she made a pit stop at The Children's Den and picked out a snowsuit, shirt and a blanket sleeper. After that, because she had direct order from her family, she stopped at Pine Ridge Sports to buy Say it with a ...
