Renovation plans for Blackstock Rec Centre (From page 5) talents to prepare drawings for the « project-and he has agreed to act as the contractor if the work gets underway. And he said other Cart- wright residents have agreed to donate their expertise to get the pro- Ject completed. But even with the volunteer help, the cost of the project is estimated to be in the $175 to $200,000 range. Mr. Goss warned council that the lobby of the Arena will be condemn- ed unless renovations are com- pleted. The Arena, he said is solid- ly booked for ice time this year and Committee to study parked cars problem The Scugog Roads Committee is going to take a close look at vehicles parked along Queen Street in front of R.H. Cornish School. Jan Johnson, who lives almost directly across Queen Street from the school, told councillors Monday afternoon the problem of parked cars along the street has created an "inconvenience" in recent years, but lately there have been so many cars along the sides of the street that the situation has become dangerous. She said there have been occa- sions when parked cars have block- ed off the driveway to her home and other times her visibility is blocked by the cars when she is trying to get her own car out of the driveway. Parents, waiting to pick up their kids after class, park along both sides of Queen Street in front of the school and on the circular driveway on the school property. Councillors agreed that the traf- fic congestion in the area of the school in the mornings and after- noons is serious, but may be eased somewhat when the new school on Simcoe Street north is built next year. However, there is a municipal by- law which forbids stopping on Queen Street from Bigelow to Highway 7A, and the Roads committee will decide whether the situation is serious enough to warrant placing no-stopping signs and enforcing the by-law. He said even though the ice sur- face is not regulation size, the Arena serves the community, especially the youngsters, and it would be a shame if it had to be closed down. Council agreed to immediately make an application for half the funds for the project, but the deadline for that application is February 12, and there are no guarantees that the application will be approved. However, if the grant application is approved, it appears as if coun- cil is prepared to pay half the pro- ject cost this year.
