But toreach that figure several regional departments may be forced to cut their projected budgets for the com- Annual Snowarama rideathon up-in-air The annual Port Perry Snowarama for Easter Seals is scheduled to go February 7, if Mother Nature co-operates with some white stuff by that date. "It (the ride) is all in Mother Nature's hands right now," said Jim Grieve last Friday. He is Snowarama co-chairman for the Port Perry Rotary Club which is responsible for the administrative work. The annual Snowarama in Port Perry has raised more than $100,000 over the years for Easter Seals and the Timmy/Tammy campaign. With the start and finish at the Latcham Centre on Port Perry's lakefront, the ride takes snowmobilers over some 60 miles of ~ trails and Lake Scugog. If Mother Nature refuses to co- operate in the next week or so, it will be just the second time the ride had to be cancelled due to lack of snow. Truck fire (From page 1) driver realized his brakes had come on. The driver pulled over, and spot- ted flames coming from the wheels closest to the cab. Firefighters were called, and im- mediately put the fire out. Captain Charlie Lown suspected the flames were the result of grease leaking from the wheels. He said it was lucky the fire was put out, and speculated there might have been a real disaster had the tanker full of gas caught fire and exploded in that - busy area of Port Perry. The truck was parked directly under several major power lines, and close to the plaza, the new plaza and across the road from Switzer Motors.
