Connors, on a slapshot from the point added Port's last goal on _ assists by McBride and John Lally. Minnetonka scored late on a tip in to bring the score to 6-3 in Port's favour. Outstanding for Port Perry in this game was the goaltending by Brad Bricknell as he made many difficult saves particularly from rebounds that weren't cleared. Others playing a strong game were Kevin Gibson, Clair Cornish and Phil McBride. Port Perry 11 Alexandria 6 In game number two played Fri- day evening, Port Perry again jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on goals by Steve Connors and Kevin Gibson with assists supplied by Phil McBride, Brad Menzies and Warren Geer. Alexandria proceeded to tie it up before a goal by Connors with assists to Menzies and Paul Wylie gave Port Eagles a 3-2 lead after one period. Both teams threw defence out the window for the second period as Port outscored the visitors 4-3 to take a 7-5 lead into the third period. Scoring for the Eagles were Men- zies, Gibson, Geer and Mike Sorley. Assists were supplied by Menzies with two and single helpers to John Lally, Wylie, Geer, Gibson and Derek Fitzgerald. "Ina penalty filled third period, not unlike the previous two periods, Port wrapped up the game on two goals by Menzies, one by Connors (giving them both hat-tricks) and a single tally by Todd Taylor. Assists went to Gibson and Fitzgerald with two each and single helpers went to Wylie and Sorley. Alexandria replied with one goal to round out the scoring. Outstanding for Port Perry in this game was Brad Menzies as he com- bined for seven points while playing center and defence. Others playing a strong game in this wild shoot-out were Steve Connors when not in the penalty box, and John Lally press- ed into playing defence as Port was short two players in that department. Dayton was a big, solid club and managed to hold leads of 2-1 and 3-2 before ending the second period tied 4-4. The Eagles's biggest problems to this point were dumb penalties and sloppy defensive coverage in front of their net. After a break bet- ween the second and third periods, Port foared to life outscoring the op- position 6-1 in the third period for the victory. © Leading the scoring parade for the Eagles were Todd Taylor and Warren Geer with two goals with one goal each going to Kevin Gib- son, Clair Cornish, John Lally, Paul Wylie, Mike Sorley and Brad Men- zies. Assists were supplied by Cor- nish with three, Derek Fitzgerald, Steve Connors, Wylie and Menzies with a pair each and singles going to Gibson, Geer, Andrew Steele, Phil McBride and Brad Bricknell. Playing above average for Port were Todd Taylor, Warren Geer and Kevin Gibson. This victory gave Port Perry first place in the ten team division with Kincardine se- cond, Hagersville third and Alexan- dria fourth, giving these teams a birth in the semi-finals. Teams not qualifying were Minnetonka,.- Dayton, Manitoulin Island, Brad- ford, Elmvale and Knoxville, Ten- nessee. Semi-Final: Hagersville 5 - Port Perry 2 - Bright and early Sunday morning, the Eagles took to the ice and before their wake up call had taken effect they were down 2-0. Hagersville in- creased their lead to 3-0 by the end of the first period as they hit the Eagles at will in all three zones and continually got to the puck first at either end of the rink. In the second period, Paul Wylie stationed in front of their net, deflected a shot from the point on PLAT@ the power play with assists going to Brad Menzies and Derek Fit- zgerald. This seemed to pick the Eagles up a bit and they went to the break down 3-1. In the third period, Hagersville made it 4-1 half way through the period, putting serious pressure on Port to come back strongly. With the goaltender on the bench for the last six minutes of the game, the Eagles managed to score after hem- ming Hagersville in for the best part of three minutes with Wylie scoop- ing in a rebound on assists by Phil McBride and John Lally. Port con- tinued to press, but it wouldn't go in as the puck went everywhere but between their pipes. Eventually Hagersville. dumped' the puck out and down into the Eagles empty net. Maybe with more between games rest for some of the players things might have been different and maybe not. Outstanding again in this game was the goaltending of Brad Bricknell. Over the two Silver Stick Tour- naments Port Perry won eight games, while just losing one which isn't too bad leading into the OMHA playoffs. Port Perry starts their round robin playoff in Stouffville Friday night at 8:00 p.m. and then are home Monday night to Cobourg at 7:30 p.m. This series is home and home total points with the two best teams playing a best of five series to be completed by the end of February. Special thanks to the injured players Mark Barkey and Kris Lavereau who attended the tourna- ment, but couldn't play and helped on the bench. It was appreciated. | TROPHIES & ENGRAVING Team Jackets & Uniforms Skate Sharpening Silk Screening done on Premises PINERIDGE SPORTS SHOP Queen Street - Port Perry PHONE 985-2839 lkbintialidditidaded The first casualty of war is innocence.
