At the 11:58 of the third Swamp's Barclay Phoenix returned the favour when he made an end to end rush and scored unassisted to give Swamp the lead 2-1. With only 2:35 left in the game Emmerson applied the pressure and their efforts paid off when Vince Criscione scored and Mike Toye and Paul Kett earned the assist. This game provided excellent team play and all the fans, players and coaching staff earned a well deserved tie. Tweens consolation On January 17, Port Perry Aller Aluminum Tween Ringette team travelled to Woodville. Port came out on the losing end of a 9-4 score. Woodville had a 2-0 lead before Port found the net with Danielle Cooper getting a short handed goal, assisted by Chris Mueller but Wood- ville in quick form made it 3-1. Danielle closed the gap to 4-2 with a great swing around shot with Chris picking up another assist. Woodville promptly took over with two quick goals to end the period. Port picked up two goals in the second period, Nicki Beare from Chris Mueller and Mandy Porter and Chris Mueller from Danielle Cooper and Kendra McCrae but un- fortunately for Port, Woodville also got three goals to put the game out of reach. Saturday Jan. 23, Port returned to Woodville, this time for a tourna- ment. In spite of a poor start, Port Perry Tweens won the consolation. In their first game Port Perry came up against Bobcaygeon. Since Bobcaygeon seemed unable to get to Port Perry, this game counted as our league game. Unfortunately, Port was defeated 5-4. Port Perry did not come to life un- til near the end of the game but the closing minutes had the fans on the edge of their seats. Port seemed to be hitting the goalie with most of their shots in the earlier part of the game. Chris Mueller came up big of- fensively for Port with 3 goals and one assist. Chris' goals all came from right in front of the goalie where she seemed to be the weakest. Danielle Cooper also got a goal and an assist. Additional assists went to Mandy Porter, Ken- dra McCrae and Nicki Beare with 2. The refereeing in the game was shakey at best. The second game pitted Port against the physically strong Lind- say team. Lindsay, also aided by great goaltending, defeated Port 8-2. Port Perry was simply worn down by the tough style of play. A com- bination of steady goaltending and poor aim by Port's shooters kept Port Perry's side of the score low. Chris Mueller and Nicki Beare were the lone scorers. Strangely enough only one assist was given on the goals with it going to Valerie Payne. Port may have been disappointed with their play in the first two games but they were definitely not disheartened. When they met Bob- caygeon for the consolation final, Port came out flying. Everyone played well. Special mention was made of the defensive play of Kelly Menzies who was switched to defense for the tournament. Accor- ding to fans she, time and time again thwarted Bobcaygeon rushes. Offensively, Chris Mueller, previously on defense, once again led Port Perry with three goals. Nicki Beare, who was really skating hard picked up two goals and one assist. Valerie Payne got one goal and two assists. Danielle Cooper got one goal and Kelly Menzies and Lori Buscher each got an assist. Once again on the seven goals, there were only a total of five assists given. Congratulations girls on a fine effort! The weekend was not over for Port as they had to host Ennismore on Sunday Jan. 24. The game was a walk-away for Port Perry with the home team easily earning a 164 vic- tory. Pointgetters for Port were Nicki Beare - 4 goals and 1 assist. Port was very aggressive during the early stages of the first period and registered the first goal at 9:38. Scarborough rebounded with two quick goals to go ahead 2-1. At this point Port lost their usual spark and struggled to end the game in a 5-5 tie. Lyndsay Dutkewich and Amy Parliament played a strong game with Amy registering four goals. (Way to go Amy!)
