The purpose of this tour was to see what other communities have for fitness facilities and to find out how they went about achieving their goals. The A.K. Kaufman Community Centre in Kitchener is?,a YMCA facility built in 1982. It has a leisure pool with separate tot pool sharing the same water. The public spa is also built into the pool and there is a water slide which is used by young and old alike. Four racquet courts, gym, club rooms, exercise rooms, preschool rooms, mens and womens sun rooms and separate spa and sauna rooms are all complemented by indoor bank- ed jogging track overlooking most of the facility. Activities such as swimming cost $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for children. Yearly memberships for $215.00 are all inclusive for the public facilities and for a higher fee soap, towels, sun rooms and separate spas are available. Atoms going fough The Port Atom A's travelled to Peterboro last weekend to compete in the 96 team Liftlock Tournament. Playing in the very competitive C division the boys gave a regsonable account of themselves but had to settle for third place in their group, missing the playoff round. Friday afternoon in Ennismore, Port came to life too late, as . Ernestown jumped on some early mistakes for a 3-0 lead. Late in the second period Scott Heasman made a nice rush and rung a shot off the crossbar, which Dave Bourgeois promptly buried in the net. Then late in the third Dave moved a Joe Broadworth pass back to Scott at the point, from where Scott stepped in and fired Port's final goal. Ernestown managed to kill the final 15 seconds to preserve their 3-2 win. Saturday morning, an excellent team effort was produced against the Oshawa AAA Minors. This was a very exciting contest against a fast-skating club. With just over a minute left in the game Scott Heasman made an aggressive effort "to keep the puck onside and pass to Kenton LeFort. Kenton let a good shot go that gave the netminder a little trouble and in their haste to clear he and a defenseman manag- ed to shuffle the puck into the net to give Port a 1-0 win. Mike Pashley was at his best throughout the game, turning away many dangerous shots to save his shutout. Saturday afternoon, in a game that could have placed Malmont Farms in the Championship series; they faced Peterboro's AAA Minors. Joe Broadworth scored the first and last goals of the game, but Petes managed to pot 4 in between and eliminate Port from further play. Dave assisted on Joe's first goal, Scott on the second. Malmont will now open a round robin playoff series with Stouffville and Cobourg in Cobourg Monday at 7 p.m.
