I I = I I III = Hr. ...F Columbus and Area News by Lorna Miller Hi, Fellow Columbites, My apologies for last week. I took a spectacular fall while serving gas and spent the week having my skeletal structure put back into semblance of human shape. It looks like I'm in for a few weeks of the same until everything is in line once again. Bad news for the playgroup - most of the kids are down with chicken pox and the Thursday group has been cancelled indefinitely until fur- ther notice. Mrs. Dalby brought in the report from the January meeting of the Columbus United Church Women held on January 13. This Wednesday gathering was proceeded by a dessert luncheon. Sounds like a delicious way to start a meeting. Maybe this could be passed on to those high-powered board rooms, people would probably be in a much better mood after eating the delicious delicacies that these women produce from their kitchens. Anyhow, this meeting went well and here is Mrs. Dalby's report. "The January meeting of the Col- umbus United Church Women was held on Wednesday, January 13th, proceeded by a dessert luncheon. The February Meeting will be a work meeting to be held on February 10, commencing at 11 AM. Here is an update on the four generations gathering I mentioned before. This past Christmas great- grandparents, William and Robina Nesbitt, celebrated many years of love when their daughter, Carol Naylor (nee Nesbitt) arrived from Whitehorse in the Yukon Territories and her daughter, Cynthia Cardenas, arrived from Lublock, Texas, with her two daughters, Carol Marie and Camille Cardenas. It was the first time in four years that Carol and Cynthia have seen each other. A great occasion for all. There is one set of great- grandparents that don't get much of a chance to spoil their great- granchildren so I bet they have a tendency to go overboard when they see them. Congratulations to you all, and many more happy reunions in the future. : The folks of Columbus United Church are having a Valentine Dance on Friday, February 12, at the Corinthian Hall in Columbus. Mr. Barkley will be our D.J. Sounds like a good time for all, and a chance Seated: Mr. William F. Nesbitt and Robina Nesbitt (nee McCrea) holding Carol Marie Cardenas her great granddaughter. - Standing: Carol Naylor (nee Nesbitt), a much too-young looking grandmother with her daughter, Cynthia Cardenas holding her daughter Camille Cardenas, great granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Nesbitt. Congratulations to you all, and best wishes for many more. to renew "those old feelings" for so- meone you love so call John Leblanc, 655-3592 for tickets, and get down and boogie. Your contributions to this eolumn make it g real joy. I missed doing it last week. Since I was forced to be sedentary, I decided to do some of those odious chores that just have to be done, but you hate doing. My PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, January 26, 1968 -- 47 Four generations together for a reunion silver and brass ware is gleaming, the copper doorknobs shine, all, I repeat, all of the shirts in the house are ironed and my hems and buttons are all in place. Now I can relax for the next year or so. Of course, since everything always happens at once, the dryer lost its heating element, the hot water heater sprung a leak and the washer timer went. So I just sat and polished and watched the continuing parade of service men , come and go, grunting and sweating under various burdens while the dogs growled a chorus of threats in accompaniment. Hope the rest of you remain upright and well through this winter. And keep those news bulletins coming in so we can all see you in the paper. == Es ES ES SSS i i Wh i i I MACKEY & BAILEY BARRISTERS & SOLICITORS Saturday Mornings - 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon Lake Scugog Lumber Building Oshawa Rd., Port Perry = = ee ---- ---- ------ ------ COUNTRY CORNER CERAMICS presents their 1st annual sfisAL Bring a Friend to our Ceramics Classes and you can both come for the price of one.
