ns 8 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, February 16, 1968 Chatterbox by Cathy Olliffe (From page 4) three votes. Also mentioned were Images, IGA, Hank's, Becker's, Brewer's Retail, Old Mill, the Arcade, Seléctions, Home Hardware, Scugog Carpet, and Ingredients Unlimited. BEST HOCKEY TEAM: I have a feeling many of the voters belong to the Stone Pee Wees team, either than, or the Stone Pee Wees is the best team in Scugog, Also mentioned were the Re/Max Oldtimers, the Legionaires and the Toronto Maple Leafs. I just love to see the Leafs on home ice at Scugog Memorial Arena, don't you? BEST RINGETTE TEAM: Only one name was mentioned here, Guardian Drugs. Obviously, these people don't know what they're missing when it comes to great action on the ice. FAVOURITE SPORT: Hockey was named most often, but here's the rest--skiing, ice fishing, badminton, swimming, water- skiing, curling and baseball. Someone wrote, 'By the look of the maternity ward at the hospital, love is." FAVOURITE HOBBY: The same person wrote, "Knitting, to keep the maternity ward little ones warm." Other hobbies in- cluded wood carving, baking, reading, mechanics, needlepoint, woodworking, dancing, pac man, fishing, bowling, drawing, pain- ting and waterskiing. We have some busy people in Scugog, don't we? up when I am hitch-hiking."" Makes sense, but the number one favourite was the Corvette. I guess 'favourite' doesn't necessarily reflect the term '"'own."' Other favourites included the Nissan 300ZX, '66 Mustang, a large Chev, Mazda RX7, Morgan plus 8 (?), Honda Prelude, Volkswagen, GTO, and T- Bird. - MOST PRESTIGIOUS PLACE TO LIVE IN SCUGOG: Ac- "cording to the voters, Castle Harbour is the 'in' place to hang your hat. Other addresses included on the lake, Prince Albert, Kent Estates, the subdivision behind Gerry's Produce, Port Perry, Water Street, Fralick's Beach and Lakeview Drive. WORST PLACE TO LIVE IN SCUGOG: The number one downer, believe it or not, was downtown, tied with Highway 7A. Other not-so-prestigious addresses mentioned were Lilla Street, Sunrise Beach, beside a farm, Caesarea, Platten Island, next to Frank's, Scugog Island, Queen Street, Seagrave, and over the Becker's on 7A. Well, I guess everyone's got their opinion, right? Personally, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else but Caesarea. FAVOURITE BEER: Scugog must be feeling Blue, because: Labatt's was the overwhelming favourite in this category, follow- ed by Old Vienna, Coors, Coors Light, and Ex. BEST PLACE TO MEET GIRLS/GUYS: According to this survey, if you've lonesome tonight, Crandell's is the place to meet the girl/guy of your dreams, followed closely by (get this) the laundromat. The Legion is supposedly another hot spot, as is the arcade and in front of the post office. One writer said he or she was "too old"' for such nonsense. FAVOURITE TV SHOW: Number one, the Cosby Show, Number two, Growing Pains, tied with M*A*S*H, Alf and Sixty Minutes. Also voted for were Andy of Mayberry, Golden Girls, Night Court, Miami Vice and the CHUM Top 30. LEAST FAVOURITE TV SHOW: The news! Well, well, what an uninformed bunch! Second least was M*A*S*H (!), tied with the PTL Club. People around here also hate Guiding Light, The Campbells, The Equalizer, Facts of Life, 700 Club, Wayne and Shuster, Sledge Hammer and Hymn Sing. BEST MOVIE I'VE SEEN LATELY : No wonder Three Men And A Baby has done so well at the box office--everybody likes it! The movie about babydom won top spot with seven voters, followed by Fatal Attraction, Good Morning Viet Nam, Shoot to Kill, Mask, Golden Child and She's Having A Baby. What's with all this baby stuff anyways? One voter said, "At $7 a person, who goes?"' FAVOURITE KIND OF MUSIC: You'd think we were liv- ing in Nashville. Yes, country and western was the numero uno fave of seven voters, followed way behind by rock, and even fur- ther behind by classical, pop and metal. HOW LONG HAVE YOU LIVED IN SCUGOG? Answers ranged from one year to 30 years, but the majority of answers were under 15. Newcomers, eh? WHAT'S THE BEST THING ABOUT LIVING IN SCUGOG? The number one answer was the PEOPLE! Someone else said, "You can write these crazy letters to the paper and hope to make other pecple laugh.'"' Some guy said, "Girls!" (I wonder if he met them at the laundromat). But the nicest comment was this one, "I am attempting to complete your survey with great dif- ficulty. I find everything about Scugog the best. I live in Oshawa, but I teach in Port (I have worked there for 20 years). I do all my shopping in Port Perry and find the business community exceptional." WHAT'S THE WORST THING ABOUT LIVING IN SCUGOG? From the sublime to the ridicuolus. People said- winter, too close to Toronto, everyone knows you, farm smell, and distance. Someone wrote, "It takes the Township too long to decide on a decision. Someone else wrote, "Trying to get parked anywhere near the post office between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and after school." Also, 'Being told--small town." And finally, WHICH PERSON IN SCUGOG DO YOU AD- MIRE MOST? Well, Mike Driscoll, Debbie Jones, Judy McColl, Marilyn Wallace, and BJ--you all have secret admirers. So do "all the girls." So does Star editor John B. McClelland for prin- ting letters to the editor. And shucks, I didn't expect to get three votes. Not at all. (See my accountant for your cheques.) FAVOURITE CAR: Someone wrote, 'The one that picks me" February 15 to 21 National Kinsmen Week (From page 7) and young adults of Port Perry, Durham and Canada, who suffer from Cystic Fibrosis. In the past year our local club raised over $24,000 for the fight against this number one killer of children. This helped raise the total Na- tional Kinsmen Canada donations to C.F. to 10 million dollars since 1964. The National Kinsmen of Canada were proud sponsors of Rick Hansen's Man In Motion Tour. Kinsmen Clubs of Durham Region raised over $100,000 for Rick's tour. As well, Kinsmen Clubs of Canada raised over 27 million dollars in 1987 for com- munity service work, making a total exceeding 225 million over the past 10 years. The Kinsmen plan on spending time, energy and resources in the future as they have in the past. High on the Kinsmen list of future activities is the upgrading of equipment at Kinsmen sponsored parks, as well as improving Kinsmen Beach. There have been many improvements in the Kinsmen (Scout) Hall and more changes are planned so the public can continue to enjoy its use. As plans proceed on Port Perry's recreation centre, so will the Kinsmen's plans to contribute to this very worthwhile project. Once again this year, Port Perry Kinsmen are participating in the Durham Kinsmen Cystic Fibrosis house draw. Tickets are available from any Kinsmen. Like any service club that is very active, the Kinsmen are always interested in new members. Presently there are 21 active members, anyone between more details regarding member- the ages of 21-45 interested in ship, may telephone 985-3191. Last Wednesday was a special day for John and Mabel Sweetman as they celebrated their 63 wedding anniversary. The happy couple, who have lived on Scugog Island all of their lives, were the guests of honour.'at dinner held in their honour at Conway Place last Tuesday night.
