Port Atoms B's win two more The Pineridge Sports Atom No. 2 team had a very busy week with 1 league playoff game and 2 ex- hibition games. On Thursday we travelled to Bewdley and came home vic- torious 8-2. Goal scorers in this game were Graham Holt and Kent Taylor 2 each and Daryl Bourgeois, Ryan Williams, Matt Morris and Richie Tripp 1 each. Assists went to Billy Zaparanuik, Ian Shrigley and Craig Laird 2 each, Graham Holt, Richie Tripp, Ian McCready, Kirk Swain and Ricky Olaisen 1 each. Good game guys! Port as a team played a very strong game Thursday night. On Saturday, Port Perry played an exhibition game against the Oshawa LNHL Red Wings and came out on the winning end 2-0. Graham Holt got the puck rolling in the first period on a good hard wrist shot assisted by Richie Tripp. . Ian Shrigley put the icing on the cake in the second period with a rebound shot from Daryl 'Bourgeois. On Sunday, Port travelled to the Pickering Complex to play their second exhibition game this week against Pickering but lost . 3-2. In another see-saw game Missed chances for Belles On Saturday Feb. 20, the Port Perry 1.G.A. Belles played their final league game against Markham and showed that they have improved over the last few weeks. The score of the game does not really indicate the play as Port had numerous chances but either missed the net or bounced them off the crossbars. The score was 8 to 5 for .Markham at the final buzzer. Port started out strong as they took a 4 to 3 lead after the first half. In the second half Markham took a one goal lead by the 5 minute mark then added 3 more late in the game. Costly mistakes and a couple of give aways in our own end gave Markham the win as we gave up a couple of soft: goals late in the game. Scoring for Port in this game were Sherry Harris 3 goals, 2 assists, Michelle Ryan 2 goals, 3 assists, Tina Soomre 1 assist, Lisa Francis 1 assist and Dana Forder 1 assist. Now that the league has ended the girls will play in a couple of tournaments including the Regional Championships. Don't forget the rematch against the Bandits hockey team on Sunday, March 6 at 12:30. Come out and watch this exhibi- tion of skills in ringette. \ Take NOW 5M SHOPLIFTING IS A CRIME This message sponsored by the Port Perry Star. Pickering got on the board first but Ian Shrigley in the midst of a scramble found the puck and shot it in. In the second, Pickering scored again but on a good pass from Ian McCready the Dynamic Duo of Craig Laird and Kent Taylor (assisting) tied the game up on a beautiful goal. Unfortunately for Port, Picker- ing got another goal and the game ended 3-2 against us. Goaltending was good this week - thanks for all your saves James Paterson and Scot Prechitko. Port is playing quite well recently and even the foot injuries can't keep us down - right Matt Morris and Ricky Olaisen. We've even noticed some of the team practising up for the pit- ching (baseball) season - right Billy 'Zaparanuik, Kent Taylor and Craig Larid. Port Perry now enters the final week of playoffs playing Orono, Tuesday, Newcastle, Thursday, Little Britain, Friday and they are also entered in the tourna- ment in Port Perry this Saturday. There was no scoring in the first period but there was great goaltending from Ryan Duff for the Rockets and David Verschuuren for the Stars. Kristian Holland scored the on- ly goal of second period as he got his own rebound and fired it past Calvin Hammett to give the Stars a 1-0 lead. Once again great work in net by Doug Short of the Stars and Calvin Hammett for the Rockets. And what action from both teams. The third period saw another fine exhibition of floor hockey with end to end rushes and top notch netminding. Matt Youmans stopped everything that was fired at him by the Shooting Stars. Likewise Jamie Irvine in net at the other end played a strong third period. Calvin Hammett was able to tie the game at 1-1 for the Rockets with a strong shot that was so quick that the goal was almost not allowed. The team played a two minute overtime but the score remained 1-1. 3 Congratulations to all the boys for an excellent display of floor hockey. Also a fine debut for our newest coaching duo of Mrs. Short and Mrs. Vanderby for the Shooting Stars. In Senior Floor Hockey Action, the Port Perry Red Wings beat the Green Giants by a score of 9 to 8 in a very well played game on February 15. The outstanding goalie for the Red Wings was Mike Tripp, mak- ing great saves on the shooters from the Green Giants. For the Green Giants, Andrew Jones was able to get 3 shots past the Red Wings to earn his first hat trick of the season while Scott Prechitko and Kevin Pearce, each assisted with 2 goals and Louis Whitfield finished off the scoring with one goal.
