Fondly known to all as Ed, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Mitchell. Born in England, he came to Canada with his parents at an early age. The family lived in Toronto before moving to the 4th Concession of Reach Township where Ed completed his formal education. However, Ed's quest for learning was such that he continued to acquire knowledge in many areas right up until his sudden death. As a carpenter, his work was flawless, George Mitchell and for years to come people will be reminded of Ed, when they open a cupboard or barn door. Ed was an avid reader and a man of great integrity, acquiring con- siderable knowledge in the field of botany. His sense of humour made him a welcome guest in any home. As one person has been heard to say, "I have yet to hear an ill word about Ed Mitchell." Ed will be sadly missed by cousins Jack Heaven and Mary and Eric Williams and a host of friends and neighbours. Spring in- terment will be at Kendall Cemetery, Utica, Ontario. News from Port Perry High School We've earnedabreak by Oliver Delhaise Well it's March Break again Rebels. Officially, one week in which students can get caught up with their assignments, but unof- ficially a time for family trips. Many students have earned a break: the cast of the Port Perry High School Drama Club produc- ed play Games who won two awards in the Drama Festival for ensemble work and best music design (awarded to Dave Kor- subo), the students of the Thurs- day Club, our own group of "ter- rorist comedians' who kept us all enthralled with their morning an- nouncements, and of course, all of the music students who par- ticipated in the Sunderland Music Festival. This year, as always, our school did very well in this important musical festival. The Clarinet Choir took 1st place in its category, as did the Junior Brass Quartet, the Horn Club, the Junior Clarinet Quintet, the Senior Wind Ensemble, and Swingsation, our senior stage band. The Girl's Ensemble placed second, and both the Senior Brass Quintet and Jazzmerize. In other music news, a dance will be held on Friday, April 25 to support two trips planned by the music department: The Senior Wind Ensemble trip to Boston and one by Jazzmerize to Musicfest Canada in Calgary, where last year they won a gold medal. Fun- draising will also be provided by a cabaret at the Town Hall on April 8 and 9 called Jazzmerize & Friends. Tickets can be purchas- ed at the Irwin Smith Muisc Shop, so come Rebels and help the music department, while at the same time enjoying their wonder- ful performance! And buy grapefruit this week. Other trips have also been planned, some during the March Break, others later. A group of grade 13 students are leaving for Florida, while another group of 35 students under the supervision of Mr. Arculus, are packing their bags for an 8 night stay in Merrie Olde England during the break. Yet, another group, under Mr. Talbot's supervision, are prepar- ing for their trip to Gettysburg and Washington from the 23rd to the 26th of April. However, back to local news. Airband signups are this week and judging will be the last week of March. Mark Barkey, in charge of Spirit Week, has decid- ed to stage the events, over a longer period, making them Spirit Days. Featured this year will be an armwrestling tournament, a hat day, a soc hop and music in the cafeteria. But the biggest thing to look for- ward to these next two months, is the At Home. This year the theme is Shangri-La, an Oriental Ex- perience, and this year, the At Home will be opened to the @e Hearin Aid (entre ¢f Port Perry Or E. Mueller's Office - 24 Water St. S_, Plaza. Port Perry, Ontario LOB 1NO general public of Port Perry. Tickets will be $16.00 per couple and will be available at the office. Danielle Cliche, in charge of this extravaganza, has promised some very nice secrets this year, things never before done. The one she let me in on sounds stupen- dous. But, in order to be suc- cessful, the At Home committee will need a great deal of help with decorations. So come out when you hear the announcements, and help make this the best At Home ever!!
