Proposal rejected (From page 1) disruption to wells on existing homes in the area. And councillor Christie does not want to see lots developed on the lakefront. However, she told the Star she is not totally opposed to development at Honey Heights and would be prepared to consider a new and revised plan if it is sub- mitted by the developers. Councillor Lawrence Mal- colm said his concerns are more of a general nature of the overall development patterns and growth which has taken place in Scugog over the last few years. He said there are about 400 building lots in the Township ready for development at this time. "There are a few things the council has to get sorted out, like traffic congestion problems. I think we (the Township) may have gone a little over-board last year (with new development) he stated. And he also expressed general concerns about residential devel- opment in rural areas which could have an impact on the traditional kinds; of activities carried on in thse areas, like farming. At a public hearing concern- ing the Honey Heights develop- ment proposal held four weeks ago, there were strong objections expressed by a hog farmer north of the proposed development area. And there were other objec- tions raised at the meeting about the potential negative impact on well water supplies. (From page 2) Malcolm agreed with this, stating "the easiest thing to do is to ban something, but if we do that sooner or later everything will be banned". He said he felt that con- trols were the proper way to handle the fishing problems. Mr. Drysdale concluded saying that Lake Scugog is the only lake in the Kawartha system that is open to ice fishermen in southern Ontario, other than Lake Simcoe and that he felt as long as the lake can support the fishing, it would be a shame to have it banned.
