The Port Perry Pee Wee Legionaires have had a great week after finishing off their quarter final series against Kingston Township with a 3-2 win Thursday night. We were pleased to have all our players back in ac- tion and on the ice. Jason Cochrane scored Port's first goal when he deeked the Kingston goalie. Gavin Cochrane worked the puck in our end over to Jeff Parry, who then passed the puck to Jason. Port had many chances in the first period but were only able to score the once. In the second period Steve Laird came from behind the net to poke one into the corner. Shawn Larocque was between the pipes and made some great saves, but was not able to hold Kingston off the scoreboard. Within one minute they had tied the game. In the final period Jeff Andrews scored for Port with a great point shot. Steve Laird and Chris MacLeod assisted on the goal. The boys played a very steady game of hockey and showed a lot of self-control when the heavy stick work was being dished out to them. Congratulations to the whole team on a good series. The team has now progressed into the semi-finals with a team from Glanbrook Township. On Saturday the team travelled to Glanbrook and came home with a 5-4 win. The first period saw a lot of heavy hitting and a lot of penalties being dished out for both teams. Unfortunately, Glanbrook did all the scoring and were sit- ting with a 3-0 score at the end of the first period. The Legionaires came back with a great second period to change the score 4-3 for us. Jeff Parry opened our scoring with a slick slide under the goalies pads, after picking up a rebound shot by Jason Cochrane. Steve Laird assisted on the goal as well. Jeff Andrews scored our next goal, on a hard shot that caught the top corner of the net. Steve Laird and Jeff Parry assisted on the goal. Then Steve Laird came back with his own goal on a hard fast shot from in front of the net. Jeff Parry dug hard in the corner to free the puck and Jason Cochrane was right there to put the pass over to Steve. Great team work guys! Jason Cochrane scored our fourth goal while Glanbrook played a man short. Steve Laird and Jeff Parry both assisted on the goal. In the third period Jason Cochrane scored the winning goal on a hard shot, by a pass from Jeff Parry and Steve Laird. The Glanbrook team came to Port on Sunday, and went home on the losing end of a 3-2 game. The first period there was a lot of action, and Port outshot Glan- brook 8-5, but neither team were able to get on the scoreboard. In the second period at the 3:56 mark, Steve Laird came around from behind: the net to try and tuck one in the corner, however the Glanbrook goaltender made the save, but left the puck lose, FORD MERCURY V6 & V8 TUNE-UP SPECIAL 87 * Lame $44 $ 87 * ELECTRONIC IGNITION ....oooccccoooccen. 49 * LABOUR ONLY parts extra * Vans and Air-conditioned Vehicles Extra. In the third period Jason Cochrane hit a hard fast shot to the open side of the net, after pick- ing up a pass from Jeff Parry, who was in behind the net. Steve Laird made the first pass to Jeff. Glanbrook then got themselves on the board, while Port was playing PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, March 22, 1988 -- 25 Legionaires take series lead 2 games to 0 a man short, they caught the open side of the net, on goaltender Shawn Larocque. Brad Moase scored our winning goal on a great pass from linemate Jason McBride. Brad saw that open side of the net and didn't hesitate to put it home. ' In the final 35 seconds of the game Glanbrook on a 5-4 man play, scored their second goal of the game, but it was not enough to win the game for them. Both of these teams are playing excellent hockey and all the players are putting out their best effort. Goaltenders on both teams are being challenged constantly, and Rick Hutchinson and Shawn Larocque are both standing up to the challenge. The next game in this series will be on Friday night, March 25, at 9:00 p.m. in the Port Perry Arena.
