Central Seven serves Scugog, Brock, and Uxbridge Townships. Their goal is foremost to assist people in living and working in their community. Operated by a Board of Direc- tors, with the direct administra- tion of its programs being carried out by fifty-seven dedicated full- time and part-time staff under the direction of the Executive Direc- tor, the type of services offered are in direct response to the needs of the people served. Activities related to personnel are among the more rewarding aspects of their operation. Central Seven is especially proud of its relation- ship with the people employed in their programs. Naturally, the most rewarding activity of their operation is the support provided to the people they serve. Starting in 1967 with the open- ing of a school on Scugog Island, the natural progression was to building and opening a vocational workshop in Port Perry in 1979. The Vocational program current- ly provides services to thirty peo- ple. This led to the need to provide residential services, and in 1980 Smith House was opened on Scugog Island, followed by the 1986 openings of Perry Street, Carlan House, and individual apartments. The residential programs pro- vide accommodations, training, and 'home' for twenty-one adults. 1986 also saw the opening of a Life Skills Program that provides a Senior Citizens/Retirement pro- gram for five, as well as living skills for four other people. In re- cent months the living skills pro- gram has extended its services to seven people who are involved in the Vocational Program. All com- bined, services are offered to for- ty people. The Vocational pro- gram performs a wide range of services including packaging, assembly, heat sealing, rapid printing, furniture re-finishing, clerical services, and telephone answering services. All programs are subject to the guidance and legislation of the Ministry of Community & Social Services. The Vocational Program, in response to both the wishes of the people being served and the policy of the Ministry of Com- munity & Social Services, has suc- cessfully worked towards establishing community job placements for people in the Vocational Program. Currently eleven people have job placements in the Community. Community placements include restaurants, retail outlets, janitorial companies, and domestic cleaning services. Sup- ported independent Living pro- grams are provided in order to allow some people to live in their own apartments. Summer recrea- tion programs are carried out in order to open up to all the benefits of these much needed activities in a person's daily living routine. The total operating budget for all of the vocational, residential, life skills, and recreational pro- grams combined is close to $900,000. Much of this money is spent within the Township on the operation of the various pro- grams, and by the many staffswho reside locally. Central Seven welcomes the role of operating this wide range of services. Development and training for people is planned on an individual basis and is carried out in conjunction with the policies and procedures of a for- mal training system. Administra- tion practices of Central Seven conform to accepted standards of operation and professionalism for similar social services agencies. Many obstacles have been over- come in these past years towards services offered to people with a handicap. He received training in all phases of Auctioneering. Mr. Noble also received on-the- spot training by selling at real public Auction sales during the term, where he demonstrated his ability as an Auctioneer. There were 48 students graduated from 22 states, Nigeria, and Canada. There were 4 women students in the class.
