Eight medals at Durham-wide gymnastics meet PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, April 12, 1988 -- 45 R.H. Cornish blows away the competition! The R.H. Cornish gymnastics team has done it again. In a region-wide tournament last week, the Cornish team captured more top-six placings than any other school in Durham. Cornish boasted 19 top placings while its closest competitor, Gan- dhi P.S., grabbed only 10. Included in those placings were two gold medals, five silver and two bronze. The only other school in Scu- £0g 0 capture a medal was Prince Albert Public School, thanks to the efforts of Laura Hooker, who won a silver in the K-4 Compul- sory Floor routine. Laura is a member of the Cor- nish gymnastic club. Indeed, Wednesday April 6 was a banner day for Cornish, the host of the Durham Elementary Schools Regional Gymnastics Fi- nal for girls.
