The guest speaker for the evening was a representative from the Royal Botanical Gardens, Hamilton. His subject was "Native Orchids". The Spring Flower Show and general meeting will be on May 25th. The "Floral Design Course" conducted by Veronica Colangelo got underway on Monday evening of this week at Burns Church Hall. This course will take place on the four Monday evenings throughout May. Don't forget the Spring Plant Auction sponsored by Brooklin Horticulture on Saturday, May 14th at Grass Park, Baldwin St. (Highway 12), Brooklin, commen- cing at 10:00 a.m. One Sunday afternoon, while walking his dog, John Cincurak found the remains of a balloon & a note attached. The note had been written by Kyle & Kory Wilber of Fowler, Michigan. No date was on it, so we don't know how long ago the balloon was sent aloft. A reply has been sent to Fowler, Michigan. Great fun! We extend our sincere sym- pathy to Mrs. Bertha Emm, and her sons Tony and Gerry and their families in the recent pass- ing of Mr. Sydney Emm. Mr. Emm's funeral was conducted from Burns Church last Thursday afternoon. Rev. McEntyre of- ficiated, assisted by Pastor Charles Watson from Washington, D.C., a brother-in- law of Mr. Emm. Grand-daughter Julie Emm read a beautiful poem as a tribute to her grandfather. We will lovingly remember Mr. Emm's delightful children's stories as told to the young people from time to time, at Sunday mor- ning worship service. Mr. & Mrs. Emm arrived here from England 23 years ago to make their home in this area, and to be near their family. Ken & Elaine Heron from Bracebridge, and Scott & Domini- que McAndless from Montreal visited with Rose Heron over the weekend; also visiting with Ted at the Whitby General Hospital. Last Sunday, Rose Heron ac- companied by Lois Daw attended the baptism of Rose's great grand-daughter, Heather Christine Lowes of Pickering, daughter of Brian & Lenore Lowes. The baptism took place at St. Andrew's Church, Scar- borough. Karen McAndless preached the sermon, and is look- ing forward to spending the sum- mer months in India, working with Missionaries Pauline Brown and Deanne Wadsworth. The Eleanor Knight Group of the W.M.S. will meet at the home of Ray Death on Wednesday even- ing of this week. Next Sunday is Christian Fami- ly Sunday, and Mother's Day. The Church School will participate at morning worship. For this Sunday only, Church School will begin at 10:30 a.m. As a tribute to Mother's Day, the Ladies' Bible Class will hold a special evening on Wednesday, May 11th, at Burns Church Hall. We will begin the evening with dessert & coffee at 7:30 followed with a varied programme. Our special guests will be Mrs. Shirley Baster & Mrs. Dorothy Mander- son. We are looking forward to entertaining the ladies in the community. I'would like to say how ap- preciative I am with any news items that come my way. It does help me to put this column together week by week.
