This will be the fifth annual clinic held by Dr. Keith Elliott of Port Perry Veteranary Service and will once again be held outside the Prince Albert Hall (weather permitting). In case of rain it will be held indoors. Anyone interested in having their dog or cat vaci- nated against Rabies should bring them to the Clinic this Saturday, May 14 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. All animals must be leashed or in a cage to receive the vacination. Dr. Elliott told the Star that over 400 animals were vacinated last year, and that this proceedure should be done to family pets yearly. The $5.00 cost ensures your pet does not contact this fatal disease. In 1987 Durham Region reported 42 cases or ra- bies up until May, and this year that number has been reduced to 26 cases. Don't miss this chance to protect your family dog or cat this Saturday. Sorry, no snakes, parrots, or wild animals! Hospital Spring Fair Saturday turned out to be a lovely spring day for the annual Hospital Auxiliary Spring Fair at the Latcham Centre. The commit- tee had worked hard to make it a success. The tables were filled with food and many crafts. Everyone seemed to enjoy the good homemade soup and beef on a bun. The day closed with very good results. Over $2,000.00 taken in on tickets for the wicker set and $1,500.00 from the different tables. The winner of the wicker set was James Donaldson, 334 Queen St., Port Perry. Hanging plant, Anita holds successful sale Mazzarolo. Violet, Bernice Loudfoot. At this time the Auxiliary would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who helped in any way to make our fair such a success again. Without everyone's help we could not do it alone. With your help the Auxiliary can buy new equipment and special things for patients care and also pledge money for the new addition in the future. Our next project is this week on Friday and Saturday. It is hospital tag day. If you see the ladies in pink smocks stop and say. hello and drop in some change. You will be helping your hospital. Editorial . (From page 4) clear signal to everyone that governments are not able to get a handle on their spending, so why should the average person settle for four or five per cent more on the pay cheque? The Regional budget and the Provincial one are dan- gerous. The hefty increases are built in now, and they are partly covered by normal increases in non-tax revenue. But what happens in two-or three years when things sour a bit and those sources of non tax revenue dry up. Taxes will have to go up just to keep pace, or budgets will really have to be slashed. : With Durham Region facing some massive expendi- tures in the next couple of years to solve a garbage crisis (finding and getting a new dump open could cost $30 mil- lion) the tax-payers of Durham should be alarmed that the spending increase this year is $24 million, or 19.6 per cent.
