Township council is hoping that a service club or charitable organization will take on the job of distributing the blue boxes, for a fee. It is estimated that there will be between 2,000 and 3,000 of the boxes for homes in Prince Al- bert and Port Perry. Scugog administrator Earl Cuddie told the council Monday afternoon that Township roads and parks employees are 100 busy at this time of year to take on the extra job of distributing the box- es, The curbside re-cycling pro- gram is a project of Durham Re- gion and Durham Re-Cycling Inc., and is operating with success in the Oshawa-Whitby areas of the Region. Residents of Port Perry and Prince Albert will be asked to separate their normal household garbage with newspaper, cans and bottles to be left in the blue box- es at the curb once a week where they will be picked up for re- cycling at the a depot in north Whitby. There is no charge for use of the blue boxes, and the program is voluntary. The more than 2,000 blue boxes for will be delivered in bulk to the Township about May 30, and then they will have to be dis- tributed to all residential areas in Port Perry and Prince Albert. The re-cycling program will not be available initially in the hamlets and rural areas of the Township. However, residents in these areas can bring re-cyclable garbage to two drop-off depots at the Scugog dump and the Cartwright transfer station, if they wish. : Durham Region is solidly | backing the re-cycling efforts be- cause of the pending crisis over what to do with garbage. Any group or organization in- terested in taking on the job of distributing the blue boxes in Port Perry and Prince Albert should contact Mr. Cuddie at the Township office. It is believed the job would take about two days, or less de- pending on the number of people working. Sports car dives in over its headlights A 26-year old Toronto man and a female passenger managed to get out safely after his late model sports car wound up in sev- eral feet of water off Concession 11, Scugog Island Sunday night. Durham Regional Police say Shawn Kandola was eastbound in a Fiero about 9:30 on the Conces- sion Road and failed to stop at the intersection near the shore of the lake. The car ended up about 100 feet off shore submerged to the roof in water. Efforts were underway Mon- day morning to haul the car from the lake. A Regional Police spokesman said Monday morning it appears as if the driver wasn't familiar with the intersection. No charges were laid, but the accident was still under investigation on Mon- day. The name of the female pas- senger in the car was not released. School (From page 1) The Board last year purchased the site for this new school on Simcoe Street, about one-quarter mile north of Regional Road 8. Mrs. Kelly told the Star the Board is prepared to bridge finance because that would be cheaper than buying and setting up more portables. £2 | |[FeSTYLE 200 PORT PERRY PLAZA 985-8054 TOTAL HEALTH & BODY CARE COME ...
