32 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, May 17, 1988 UCW Meeting held in lovely rural home Nestleton-Caesarea News by Mabel Cawker Meeting of Interest at Nestleton UCW. The meeting of Nestleton after- noon UCW Unit was "hosted" by Irene McKee in her lovely rural home with leader Jean Williams in the chair. She brought the meeting to order with a cordial welcome followed by a Spring poem. The inspriational devotion was led by Neta Fish, using as her theme, "Faith". She opened by use of hymn, "My Faith Looks Up to Thee" with M. Cawker at the organ. Scripture was read by Irene McKee taken from Luke 7:1-10. Hymn 'Faith of Our Fathers" was sung. In her meditation re - faith..Neta brought out many worthwhile thoughts of the mean- ing of faith. We must prepare ourselves..that faith may enter our hearts. Faith is allegiance to duty or a person..complete con- fidence, belief, trust and loyalty to God! All work worth anything is done in Faith. Faith gives substance to our hopes and dreams! Without faith we have nothing. Let us live with faith and go forward! Minutes were read by Assistant Secretary Leona Sadler and ap- proved and Treasurer Neta Fish presented the financial state- ment. Cards were sent to the ill. DOWNTOW The Roll Call was answered by an exchange of plants or seeds. A variety program re Mother's Day was given by Neta & I ene, with a humorous flavour! After the Benediction, a tasty lunch of sandwiches, cookies, etc. topped off with tea or coffee, serv- ed by hostess Irene assisted by Neta. The courtesy was extended by Effa Stainton. A meaningful meeting with a good deal of preparation! On a sunny May afternoon, the Nestleton Branch met at 1:30 p.m. in the Nestleton Community Cen- tre. As this was the annual plant and bulb auction date, members were pleased to have many items of interest brought in. Rika Wygerde was the capable auc- tioneer, assisted by Grace Ba- jama, with Marg. A generous dona- tion from Irma Welts - who is now home again, was gratefully received. Program planning for the year will be held soon with the Pro- gram Co-ordinator. The Blackstock Fair display for the Institute this year is "School Days before 1940' and a committee headed by Rika Wygerde will make arrangements. Correspondence included an in- vitation to Solina's 85th Anniver- sary, May 11th, and president Neta Fish & Rika Wygerde will attend. Also aninvitation for June 1st, at 8 p.m. to Blackstock In- stitute when Mrs. Turner will show slides on "Rural Village Life" in the Orient. The president will contact Mrs. Wilbur, Port Perry, regarding the Library Canvass. Norma Frew as alter- nate District Director gave an ex- cellent report of Durham West District Annual held May 4th at Maple Grove, which had been at- tended by Neta Fish, Rika Wygerde, Norma Frew, Win- nifred Davison and Gwen Malcolm. Next year Nestleton will be the hostess Branch! O'Canada was sung and the In- stitute Grace, and lunch served by Norma Frew and Marg. France. Appreciation to all for a fine meeting and interesting auc- tion was expressed by Norma Frew. Caesarea Euchre Results. At the Wed. evening Euchre, the following are to be con- gratulated: First prize went to Kathleen Watts who tied with Faith Lawrence with an 81. Se- cond - Paul Krawetts with 75. Anne Harran - low with 44. Linda Donnelly & Kathy Tromans hosted the lunch! This Wed. again for a good time at the Caesarea Centre! Nestleton Presbyterian Church. Rev. Fred Swann conducted the morning service, taking his ser- mon text Isaiah 41, verse 10, "Fear Not For I Am With You, Be Not Dismayed For I Am Thy God, I Will Strengthen You'. Joyce Taylor supplied the music as organist. Sunday School was under the leadership of Dorothy Lee. Rev. Fred Swann leaves next week for a visit to relatives in Ireland. We wish him a Happy . Healthy Holiday. Miss Susan Swann will be our Guest Speaker next Sunday. All are welcome to attend. Caesarea Community Church. A good service at the friendly Caesarea Church on Sunday mor- ning at 11 a.m. with an average attendance. Rev. Dr. W.H. Crawford based his sermon or Philippeans, Chapter 2, entitlec "The Lordship of Jesus' - a fine discourse! Lyn Arney was in charge of the children's Church. Kathleen Watts was the organist. Nestleton United Church. On Sunday morning, warm greeters at the door were Ina Davis & family. Lawrence Malcolm was the Usher. Rev. Dale Davis used as his sermon topic, "It's Up To Us' taking his text from Scripture Acts 1:15-17 & 21-26 & John 17:11b-19. (The Act Of Covenanting) The Statement of Learning Covenant Jean Williams read the statement re- the learning which came from the Elim Lodge Committee. The Covenant Of Congregation re- Richard Choe, which is an act of supporting the young Minister in his work, was carried out with Jean Williams & Kay Notman, from the Lay Training Commit- tee, assisting Rev. Dale Davis in the ceremony. This impressive service closed with the hymn, "Stand Up! Stand Up For Jesus", with Gwen Malcolm at the organ. Sympathy Extended. Saddened to learn of the pass- ing of a good friend, Adelia Mowbray, beloved wife of Ralph Mowbray of Brooklin. She also leaves to mourn, daughter Sheila Gordon of Whitby, a grandson and two great grandsons. Adelia was a Past Noble Grand of the Rebecca Lodge, and Past Matron of Blue Ray Chapter. Always a ready smile, a pleasant, sunny disposition, and well liked by all - she will be very much missed by relatives and a host of friends! On Tuesday, May 10th the after- noon unit of the U.C.W. met at the home of Mrs. Marion Larmer. Mrs. Grace Hall, Unit Leader opened the meeting. She introduc- ed the student minister Richard Choe and thanked our hostess. It was mentioned that the Open Meeting would be May 25th. The next meeting will be at Mrs. Grace Hall's home on June 14 and will be a pot luck picnic. It was an- nounced that Miss Doreen Van- Camp will be ordained on May 29 at Conference in Brockville. Dora Martyn discussed some ideas that we might use for fundraising. The program was introduced by singing the hymn My Faith Looks Up To Thee. Thelma Wright gave an inspiring Bible study on Faith. The Roll Call was answered by each person discussing a memory of her mother. Grace Hall read a paper concerning different ways of coming into our Faith. Each person present then had an oppor- tunity to tell how he or she was in- fluenced by people or situations. There were many interesting and personal comments by those who volunteered. Everyone participated. Grace Hall, Unit Leader closed 'with prayer. Kathleen Watts. Y.M.C.A. Floor Hockey is over for another season. Our teams travelled this weekend t6 Whitby for the annual tournament. Unfor- tunately our senior team did not place this year. However we did not come home empty-handed. The Intermediate and Junior Teams won silver medals for making it to the semi-finals. Way to go teams! See you in the fall. Allan and Mary Asselstine, Michael and Mark of Ottawa were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Frey and Mr. and Mrs. Ver- non Asselstine. On Sunday Mr. Gerald Asselstine brought his grand- mother Mrs. V. Chaplin of Oshawa to Vernon and Vera Asselstine's home to celebrate her 90th birthday. In the afternoon members of the family gathered to enjoy cake and icecream to celebrate this happy event. Atten- ding were Floyd and Ruth Asselstine, Michelle and Craig Asselstine, Al and Mary, Michael and Mark Asselstine, Colin and Christine and Jennifer Asselstine, Gerald Asselstine. The Grade 7 & 8 Drama Students directed by Mrs. J. Butt and Miss J. Rensink presented an excellent production "The Ghostchasers. This well produc- ed play was a real treat to the parents & friends who attended last Thursday evening. The Music Night will be May 24.
