When Sylvia Parker headed her car east Sunday morning, bound for PEI, she wasn't quite sure if she was leaving home or going home. "I guess I have two homes, really, Port Perry and PEL" she told the Star last Friday. Home for Sylvia the last 20 years has been Port Perry where she's been well known for her vol- unteer work. She was a Guide leader here for nine years, a Cub leader for five years before that, and for five years she worked as an Emergency Receiver with the Childrens Aid Society, providin emergency care for some 2 youngsters aged six months to 16 for Childrens Aid. Many of the kids she cared for still keep in touch with Sylvia. But on Sunday morning, she said goodbye to Port Perry, to family and a lot of friends. She'll be living in St. Peter's Bay, PEI, just a short drive from Charlottetown, and just a few miles down the road from Mon- tague, the town where she lived as a youngster. "I still have a lot of friends and family in PEI, but I'm sure going to miss Port Perry and the people here," she said. In September, she and Wylie Taylor will be getting married. Wylie runs a farm where he keeps beef cattle and a dozen race horses. "I guess I always felt I wanted to return to PEI to live someday, but I dind't think it was possible." Until last November, when she and Wylie decided they would get married this fall. And though she's going to Sylvia leaves home for home miss her three grown children and two grandchildren, Sylvia has no regrets. Along with her volunteer work in Port Perry, her associa- tion with the Childrens Aid, Syl- via worked as a cook at several re- staurants in Port Perry, operated her own catering business, and for the past year, she clerked in the Beckers Store on Queen Street. She's not sure what type of work she might be doing off the farm in PEI, but she's certain she'll be involved with kids. "I love kids, always have," she smiled. Last Friday evening at the Port Perry Curling Club, friends and family held an Open House in her honour, and a lot of people turned out to wish her bon voyage and best of luck in PEL Sylvia told the Star she ex- pects to return to Port Perry in about a year for a visit to help her parents celebrate a 50th wedding anniversary. oo Sncerety, Les UNIQUE GIFT BASKETS Created with care for all occasions.
