Their energy and expertise Blackstock and Area News by Joyce Kelly . 4 For the past week Jennifer Halley, a young Scottish farmer from Larkhill near Glasgow has been the guest of Don and Mar- jorie Green and family on her three month exchange to Ontario. During the week she toured many points of interest in the area. Sunday was a very busy day for many local families. Quite a number from here attended the annual Decoration Service at Prince Albert. Also a large number of relatives and friends attended the 40th Wedding An- niversary of Harold and Lois Luke held at the C.E. Room of the Blackstock United Church. A family dinner was enjoyed follow- ing Open House. Friends attend- ed from Ottawa, Hamilton, Guelph, Toronto, Goodwood, Mount Albert, Peterborough, and local area. The Harold Kyte family gathered at the home of Harold and Jean to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary. Dorothy and Howard Lee celebrated their 50th wedding an- niversary also on Sunday after- noon with an Open House at their home in Nestleton. Congratulations to all of these J nourad couples on their special ay. The members of the Hoskin family attended the annual Hoskin Picnic which was held at the Enniskillen Conservation Area where the regular events of a picnic were enjoyed - food, visiting and games. Better health is wished for John Turcotte and Elva VanCamp and Wm. Forder who are ill in hospital. Pleased that Wes Pearce is 'home again after his stay in Port Perry Hospital. On Tuesday evening a surprise 'bridal shower in honour of Eleanor Gibson was held at the home of 'Debbie and Marg Lee. After Eleanor opened her lovely gifts from the friends and relatives who had gathered, a delicious lunch and a social time was enjoyed. Manetta Martin of Englehart visited her brother Hector and May Shortridge last week. Darcy Dorrell returned home to Charlton on Sunday after spen- ding a couple of weeks in the area. On Monday evening the Achievement Night was held for the projects Encounter the Out- doors and Farm Safety. Jeff Kemp acted as chairman of the evening's presentations. Following the presentations leaders' certificates were presented to several leaders among whom was Gail Johns who received her 5 year certificate. Jill VanCamp and Deanna Jacob each received the 12 pro- ject award. Congratulations. The evening concluded with the 4-H Pledge. : Many of the local young people enjoyed the junior farmer dance held at the Manvers Arena on Saturday evening. Brian and Cheryl DeJong at- tended the 10th anniversary of Brian's graduation from Guelph University. They enjoyed renew- ing friendshi at the festivities last weekend. On Wednesday evening the grade 8 graduation will be held for the C.C.P.S. students. The public is welcome to attend the actual graduation exercises which will be held at the school at approx- imately 7:30 p.m. following the grad r at Rec. Centre. Karl and Ilene ( DeJong) en and children Heather and Steffan returned to Canada from 3%4 years serving with the M.C.C. Committee in Bangladesh. After spending a short time with their family members here, they have returned to their home in Mississauga to resume life in On- tario again. Beacock Reunion by Jean Ferguson On Saturday, June 18th, a beautiful summer day, 80 members of the Beacock family celebrated their 61st Reunion. It was held in Blackstock at the Recreation Centre. The reunion got underway at 12:30 p.m. with registration and refreshments afterwards. The children then enjoyed games organized by Jane Salter- man while the adults watched and visited. There were children from the age of 2 to 12 competing. in races such as running, the three- legged race and a shoe kick. Prizes were also given for the best decorated water gun, previously done at home, but used on each other after the judges made their decision. At 5:00 p.m. a pot-luck supper was enjoyed by all, again proving that there are many good cooks in the Beacock clan. Prizes were awarded to the oldest lady present-Margaret Ir- win aged 90, to the oldest gentleman-Ernie Nicholson aged 103. The person having the most members of his/her family pre- sent was Verona Ferguson with 8 members. The couple who had been married the longest was Mildred and Bob Wilson who had been married 48 years. The youngest person was Devin Trumbull, 2 years in May. The family travelling the longest distance to the reunion was Joan and Wayne Hartwick and their three children from Kincardine. Alan and Shelly Ferguson were the most recently married. One minute of silence was observed during the business meeting for family members who had passed away during the past ear. y The members were - Arthur Hyland, Ralph Hockridge, Grant Colville Beacock, Douglas Charles Beacock and Everette Trewin. At 7:00 p.m. everyone gathered to enjoy the many dance numbers amazed us all. Following was a much enjoyed entertainment by a kindergarten teacher and magi- cian John Covers. The younger children were especially taken with his performance of Super- man telling stories and doing magic tricks. Audience participa- tion also made it more in- teresting. The Pine Ridge Clog- gers then returned for another half hour of enjoyable entertain- ment. Following this they came down from the stage and found partners in the audience to in- struct some of the easier steps to. This ended an enjoyable day together. Leanna Bryans, Egypt, celebrated her 5th birthday with a party on Sunday. Mrs. Belle Werry, Neil and Eleanor Werry attended the fif- tieth wedding anniversary of Ken "and Helen Braithwaite held ad St. John's Church, Ida. Nancy and Bob Bryans recent- ly enjoyed a visit with Beryl and Pete Nicholson in Martin River (40 miles north of North Bay). They moved away ten years ago from the East Quarter Line. Their two sons married local girls - Bryan married Nancy Wygerde and Scott married Debbie Sutton. There were 9 tables at the week- ly euchre party with the following winners - 1. Myrtle Gimblett; 2. Bernice Wells; 3. Leonard Cane; 4. Leslie Taylor; 5. Gladys Potts; 6;. Stan Wright; Low - Harold Swain; Draws - Doreen Ferguson, Bernice Wells, Ruby Cochrane and Leslie Taylor. Members of the Agricultural Society are busy preparing for the annual Tractor and Truck Pull which will be on July 8 and 9 even- ings. The grandstand is being renovated.
