- Canada Day Thought This coming Friday, July 1, Canada Day will be celebrated! We trust all who live within its borders will pause and glance around us...reflect and look carefully at the world in which we live...and salute Canada with pride on this our 121st birthday and say, "I am glad to be a Canadian." Retirement Party Attended Sam & Mabel Cawker of Nestleton, attended the retire- ment party for teacher Stu Lane, of Oshawa, on Wednesday, June 22, held in Lakewoods Public School Library, Oshawa. The family, fellow associates and friends, were on hand to give Stu a good send off for his retirement days...after 29 years of teaching! Stirring speeches of congratula- tion, were given by a represen- tative of the Durham Board, and fellow associates. Several of the teaching associates were present from Port Perry! Stu was truly an essential part of Lakewoods Public School...a warm, friendly, very human per- son, who extends himself! His energy is boundless and his com- mitment is total...the '"key" to his success as a teacher! A happy hour of reminisc- ing...while enjoying the delightful "buffet" made up a part of the afternoon. Stu and Marion Lane will be taking up residence soon in Peter- sorough, where they are building 'a new home! Our "heartiest congratula- tions" for a happy, healthy, retirement! A The Annual McNeely JFamily Reunion The reunion & picnic was held on Saturday, June 25, 1988 on the McNeely property at Williams Point, Caesarea, Ontario, with 94 people in attendance. It was the usual great get-together and renewal of acquaintances, with plenty of games and events for children and adults including golf, balloons and even a fish pond, and plenty of food. This reunion has been held every year since late 1945 when FOOTE -- BARCLAY Mr. McNeely returned from ser- vice overseas in the Canadian Ar- my in World War II. It is always a great opportunity for a '"'Gather- ing of the Clan.' Members of the family were present from many places in Canada and United States, and one family from as far away as the Philippines. Another family returned from a world cruise just in time to be present. The day was gorgeous though it had an early bad opening. Many newcomers expressed their delight at being present and are looking forward with anticipation to next years meeting. Nestleton Presbyterian Church Rev. Fred Swann conducted the service at 10 a.m. in Nestleton Presbyterian Church with 'a larger attendance than usual. Friends and relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Paul McCabe of Etobicoke were present for the occasion of the baptism of their son Owen Bernard Donald...a grandson for Mr. and Mrs. Barney McCabe of Nestleton. Mr. George Scott assisted Rev. Swann. Psalm 24 was read in unison and the Scripture readings were from Luke 22 and 1st Corinthians II. The floral arrangements were in memory of the late Mrs. Ella Bowers. The Sacrament of Communion was held with Mr. George Scott and Mr. Barney McCabe assisting. Speaking on the meeting of Communion, Rev. Swann mentioned, 1. Remem- brance, 2. Confession and 3. Thanksgiving. Services will be withdrawn for July, and resume again in August. The Church Anniversary will be held on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 11:00 a.m. with a guest speaker. On behalf of the church con- gregation Rev. Swann presented a fitting remembrance to Mr. and Mrs. Howard Lee on the occasion of their Golden Anniversary. Convocation Ceremony Teacher Dan Kitchen of Whit- by, received his Masters of Education Degree on May 28, at the impressive Convocation Ceremony held at Niagara University, Lewiston, New York! Father Grima. Leisa Lynn Barclay and Bill Bruce Foote were united in marriage May 28, 1988 at the Immaculate Concep- tion Church, Port Perry. Officiating the double ring ceremony was The bride is the daughter of Bill and Jean Barclay, Port Perry. The groom is the son of Eileen Foote, Oshawa and Bruce and Betty .. Foote, Cannington, Ontario. I Leisa was given in marriage by her: parents. Jill McRae, Bolton, Ontario, was the maid of honour. Bridesmaids were LeeAnn Barclay, Cheryl Barclay and Angela Barclay, sisters of the bride. Laura Hooker, friend of the bride, was the flowergir|. John Vaz was the best man. Ushers were Scott Sandison, Bob Horton and Russ Jones, friends of the groom. Grant Hooker, friend of the bride, was the ring bearer. | The bride wore a traditional gown of white satin enhanced with pearls and lace. Her matching headpiece held her veil. She car- ried a beautiful cascade of silk pink roses, accented with strands of pearls. The groom wore a black tuxedo with a pink rose boutoniere. The reception was held at the Immaculate Conception Hall, Port Perry. | The couple honeymocned in the Dominican Republic and are now residing in Port Perry. July 23, the Caesarea annual Golf Tournament will be held at Pine Ridge Golf Club, Port Perry. Registration at 8:30 shot gun start 9 a.m. Evening U.C.W. Unit Meeting The evening UCW Unit Meeting was held on June 8, 1988 at the home of Leader Regenia Walker, Scugog Point, with nine present. Regenia opened the meeting with a warm welcome. Ina Davis presented the worship with a reading, "When it looks like I have failed!" The roll call was answered by '"'showing your wed- ding picture' and '"a memory of the day' which stimulated con- versation and laughter. Business Period A summer outing for both UCW Units has been planned for July 6, 1988. The members will attend the CAESAREA FIREMEN"S ASSOCIATION Car Wash dA At Caesarea Firehall SUNDAY, JULY 3rd 10 AM to 4 PM All Proceeds to Community Memorial Hospital, Port Perry Kawartha Summer Theatre per- formance in Lindsay, - then a boat cruise and dinner is of interest! The July meeting was discuss- ed re - the evening Unit and members decided to have a pot luck dinner at the home of Betty Headon, July 27, with a rain date of July 28. The corn roast and dance plann- ed for Sept. was discussed at length and will be finalized at the next meeting. The Unit decided to pay Irwin Smith for the piano tuning. The treasurers report was given by Ina Davis. After the meeting clos- ed, a lovely lunch was served by Regenia and a social time enjoyed. | Blue Ray Election With a good attendance on Thursday evening, June 9, Blue Ray Chapter, No. 238, OES, held their annual Election of Of- ficers...in the Masonic Temple, Port Perry, with Grand Trustee, Ken Summersford of Durham Chapter, conducting the Election. All offices were duly filled! W.M. Karel & W.P. Jack Not- tingham welcomed all guests and Blue Ray members with a special fraternal greeting in the East! During the business portion the fashion show for fall was discuss- ed at length...the tenative date be- ing Jept. 28! Cookbooks are still available...a special 40th Anniver- sary project. After chapter clos- ed, lunch was convened by Marilyn Jones! Pot Luck Supper Held Doris Nottingham of Caesarea, hosted the Past Matrons Club on Monday evening with a "super" pot luck supper at 6 p.m. on the spacious lawn. After the meal, a brief business meeting was con- ducted by president Marguerite Mitchell. The Past Matrons Club will be celebrating their 25th bir- thday on Monday, Sept. 12, and plans are in the offing to hold the festivities at the Gate Restaurant in Port Perry. More information ater Regatta Coming Up The 56th annual Regatta will be held this year July 30, 31 & Aug. 1. Help is badly needed for can- vassers re-regatta. Nestleton United S.S. & Church Picnic The home of David and Joanne Malcolm and family, was the beautiful setting for the Nestleton United Outdoor Service on Sun- day, June 26. With tall arching maples overhead the congrega- tion sang the old familiar hymns with Lawrence Malcolm accom- panying on his chord organ. Rev. D. Davis' sermon 'Forgetting Oneself' was challenging. The childrens story concerned pencil with an eraser. We all make mistakes and need to erase them if possible. Assisting in the ser- vice was Richard Choe, who read the Scripture. Following service all enjoyed a picnic pot luck meal followed by a sports program...an exciting time for the youngsters. Family Concerns Bonnie Bilton, Lyndhurst, and five children visited from Sunday to Wednesday with her parents, Lawrence & Gwen Malcolm, Nestleton. Glad to report Gordon Brooks, son of Grant & Georgina Brooks, Port Hope, is progressing well in Toronto Western Hospital. His serious injuries will take time to heal. Very pleased to report that Ber- nice Mairs is doing well in Oshawa General Hospital after surgery this past week. Doris MacPherson in Port Perry Hospital is making satisfactory progress after a nas- ty fall which resulted in her right arm being broken in two places. Doris keeps her spirits up high...and would welcome visitors! Our warmest wishes to a good friend! Caesarea Community Church A fair attendance on Sunday morning. Rev. Dr. W.H. Crawford spoke on 'Divine Forgiveness" with text from Luke 7 and John 8. Bob Heayn gave the opening prayer and led the Responsive reading. Church School was taken by Lyn Arney and the organist was Kathy Watts. Next Sunday, Robt. Heayn will be the guest speaker. Try and attend!
