The fireworks in Port Perry Friday evening were magnificent and the "view of the lake with all the boats and the sky ablaze with colour was a show to remember. Thank you to the organizers of this event and to the weatherman. The guest speaker at Seagrave United Sunday morning was Mark Sturman. He capably handled the topic of the role of youth in the church. Mark has been involved in the Toe Alpha and Bay of Quinte Conference Youth Forum along with taking leadership roles in our own Sun- day School. This service was con- ducted by the session and next week we welcome back Rev. David Shepherd with service at 9:30 a.m. Get well wishes go out to Mr. Fred Cookson and Mr. Mansel Sleep and Miss Una Sleep who are patients in our local hospital. 1 hope you all will be soon well and able to get out and enjoy our fine summer weather. Congratulations and best wishes to Bill and Shirley Barr who celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary last week. Birthday congratulations go out to Gretel Cameron, Bonnie Bran- ton, Wayne McCully and Craig Beacock all celebrating their special days this week. Island Women's Institute by Connie Haigh The June meeting of the Scugog Island Women's Institute was chaired by the President, Mary Ostrom, and in honour of her bir- thday all members greeted her by singing "Happy Birthday." Plans were finalized for the annual sale and quilt draw to be held at the Scugog Island Community Hall on July 9 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Eight of the Community Hall tables have been refinished by Harry Morris, to the complete _satisfaction of everyone. At-the conclusion of the business meeting the programme was in charge of Lilo Czilok's group with the theme 'Education and Cultural Activities." Mrs. Sandy McCully was guest speaker. Mrs. McCully is Discharge Planner and Diabetic Education Co-ordinator at the Port Perry Community Hospital, and showed an interesting film on a nursing home. Afterwards a diabetic lunch was served with recipes available. The next meeting in Ju- ly will be under the convenorship of Penny Pettypiece's group. Roll Call will be "name your favourite supper dish." There will be a potluck dinner and games.
