Co TEER RSS TR------- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, July 12 1988 -- 27 The executive of the Port Per- ry Minor Hockey Corporation will be reviewing applications for coaching and managers positions over the next four weeks or so with the appointments to be con- firmed at the next executive meet- ing August 7. The applications received by July 8 were presented to the exec- utive and directors at a meeting July 10. There were no formal applica- tions received by July 8 for three of the rep teams in the system: Atom 2, Midget 2 and the Juve- niles. Rep team (OMHA) coaches this coming season must hold a NCCP level certificate and trainers must have a HTCP level certifi- These are not required for coaches/managers in the house leagues. In other business at the meet- ing July 10, the executive and di- rectors generally agreed that if a registration fee increase is required for this coming season, it should be a nominal increase. However, a decision on Minor Hockey exec. reviews all applications whether any increase will be need- ed this year will be made once the budget has been set in August. Last year, there were 420 youngsters registered to play mi- nor hockey. Based on increases in the number of youngsters in soft- ball and soccer this summer, the directors are anticipating that the registrations for hockey will go up as well, possibly as high as 450. Minor hockey officials will be negotiating this summer for use of the Manvers Arena during the winter for some games and/or practises, as well as the Black- stock Arena to help alleviate the problem of a shortage of icé time at the Scugog Arena. This will be finalized before the hockey season gets underway this fall. And finally, if you happen to be attending any of the events dur- ing Festival Days this coming weekend, Minor Hockey will be operating a crown and anchor wheel on Queen Street. All proceeds will be used by the organization to pay for ice time and purchase new equipment. The Tennis Racket fens Junior Clinic Congratulations goes to Jay Neill and Heather Muir, winners of the Mixed Doubles Tourna- ment, held over July 2nd and 3rd. Runners-up were John Scott and Winnie Tobin. In the consolation match Tony Tenwesteneind and Sandra Adamcryck emerged the winners over Chick Carnegie and Gale Ballard. A big thanks goes to George Bright for organizing this tournament and to Bob and Ruth Burt for hosting a fun get- together at their Ashburn home Saturday evening. : Monday Night League (Part 2) will begin on July 25th. The sign- up sheet has been posted on the bulletin board at courtside. Teams and times will be posted by July 24th. The Mosquito Girls Soccer team (Homestead Furniture) displayed true grit last Thursday. Playing in 35° weather the girls were down 3-0 at half time against Pickering Village. They never gave up though. The turn-around began when a tremendous goal by Karen Kett, followed by 2 goals by Sara Brown. Maci Farquharson added the winner on a very pretty 3 way passing play. Michelle Brown and Amy Plain both showed courage, playing while injured. The Terrible Twins (as far as the opposition is concerned) Sara and Emily Cosway both had stand-out games along with Sarah Coyne and Lee-Ann Keeler. All participants of this tour- nament are requested to bring, as an entry token, a pot of flowers. In the Kawartha League, Port Perry defeated Lindsay 6-0 last Thursday evening at Lindsay. Peterborough plays Port Perry at home this Thursday evening.
