S6th annual is now history Regatta a great success Nestleton-Caesarea News by Mabel Cawker Regatta News! The 56th annual Lake Scugog Regatta & Field Day is now history and by all reports a great success! For three days (July 30, 31st & Aug. Ist) Caesarea was one eventful place for all ages! With parades, a beauty contest, golf, Pineridge Clog- gers, special field day events, horseshoe, sailing & swimming, church service, paddling, etc., it just had to be a WOW! A thank you to the following who canvassed; Ethel Caul, Albert Putsey, Helen Stevenson, Ivor Guest, Anne McIntyre, Tom Sher- win, Gladys Lawrie, Gloria Par- sons, Sharon Smith, Mary Ryan & Collette McGillavory. A special thanks to John Wolters, Lawrence Malcolm & Harvey Graham who judged the beauty contest. Thanks to Albert Putsey, Joe Grill & Ab Selby who arranged the shelter for the church service. Caesarea Outdoor Service The open air church service held in Putsey Park, on Sunday, July 31, at 10:00 a.m., led by Rev. Dr. W.H. Crawford of Community Church, was an outstanding success with a very large attendance for this Regatta Day service. John Blair on the electric piano and his musical group presented delightful music...leading the old familiar hymns. Jacqueline McDermott had her Sunshine Club singing as well. Dr. Crawford used as his text John 3:16 "God so loved the World'. A very fine service! At 11 a.m. a large attendance for the Communion Service held in the Caesarea Community Church with Frank Arney & Bill Ingram assisting the minister. Rev. Crawford spoke on 'Communion'. Kathleen Watts - organist. Vacation School commences Aug. 15-19 - Lyn Arney & Jacqueline McDermott in charge! To The Regatta Committee! The people of Caesarea and area wish to thank most sincerely the un- tiring efforts of Len Prout and the Regatta Committee which includes Albert Putsey, Bruce Lawrie, Elaine Timmel and Secretary Nan- cy Prout! Len started in 1947 as a junior judge and has been going strong ever since! We take our hats off to these fine, dedicated people - they deserve a medal!! Annual Reunion Held The annual Cawker reunion was held on Sunday, July 31, at Birdseye Centre Park, Port Perry, with some 60 or more in at- tendance. Lovely summer weather prevailed, and it was so good to see one and all again. For tl.e older folks a time of visiting was enjoyed catching up on fami- ly news...while swimming and games were highlights for the young fry. Along about 5 p.m. the Cawker Clan dined on a bountiful meal with plenty of variety to choose from. No frills! No reser- vations! No menus! The gang just lined up and helped themselves to the delightful food! What a feast! Relatives and friends were on hand from Toronto, London, Kit- chener, Sudbury, Peterborough, Bowmanville, Lindsay, Kirkfield, Haliburton, Stayner, Duntroon. Oshawa, Courtice, Scugog Is., Manchester, Port Perry, Nestleton and other points. A sincere thank you to Alan & Eleanor Cawker and Grant & Merna Cawker of Oshawa for planning and arranging the event. It was a real success! Also, warm appreciation to Steve Bull for looking after the tables and ar- ranging them in a nice, shady spot! Nestleton United Church On Sunday, July 31, Victor & Kathy Tromans were the friend- ly greeters at Nestleton United. Richard Choe conducted the ser- vice with Manda Davis reading the Scriptures - Ephesians 4:1-6 & John 6:24-35. Joanne Malcolm led in Prayer. In the choir, Kathy Tromans & Janice MacKenzie favoured with a duet, "Jesus and Me". The children's story dealt with dancing (the difference bet- ween watching and taking part). Are we willing to teach others skills so that they can participate fully? The hymn 'Lord of the Dance" was followed by Richard Choe's sermon, "Remembrance of Things Past'. He urged us as Christians to share our faith with other people using the Hymn as reference. Next Sunday, Aug. 7, at 11:15 a.m. will be a special service with dedication of our new organ. We welcome all members past and present to share in the dedication in memory of those who have served our charge. On Sunday, Aug. 14, at 10:30 a.m. will be a joint service at Blackstock following a Pot Luck Lunch. This will mark the end of Richard Choe's summer place- ment in Blackstock Charge. Caesarea Euchre Party At the weekly euchre with a fair attendance the following were the prize winners for the fine night of cards. 1st prize - Norm Rohrer with 86; 2nd prize - Geo. Mat- thewson with 83; low score - Sharon Gooding with 48; lone hands for the month of July was Faith Lawrence with 9. Lunch was provided by Sharon Gooding. All had a really good time! 'Iry and attend next week - a warm welcome awaits you. Evening UCW Unit Get-Together On Wednesday, Juy 27, 1988, the evening UCW unit held their an- nual summer "get-together'. This year it was in the form of a pool party at the attractive home of Betty Headon in Nestleton, with 12 attending. It was such a hot day that everyone enjoyed a dip in the pool when they arrived to get cooled off. Members sat around the pool chatting...with plenty of goodies to eat even before dinner. Later in the evening, a delicious pot luck dinner with some fabulous desserts to top it off was held. After the lovely meal...some enjoyed another swim in the pool. They all had a great time...laughing and chatting...'til the wee small hours! Sounds like a fantastic party! Birthday Party Held Stacey Headon, Nestleton, celebrated her 7th birthday, on July 22, 1983, in style! Since most of her little friends were away on vacation, Stacey chose her favourite restaurant for dinner. A family party, at the Red Lobster in Peterborough, complete with presents and a delightful birthday cake...was very much enjoyed by all! Our warmest Birthday Wishes to a 7 year old Stacey!
