All members of the clan were on hand to enjoy the in- timate atmosphere and fellowship over the dinner table. those pre- sent included the host & hostess, Alan & Eleanor Cawker, Andy & Anne Cawker, Valerie, Andrea & Klane, Michael & Gisela Cawker, Aaron, Ashleigh, & Martina, Scott & Joanne Cawker, Elizabeth Bronwyn & Madison Eleanor, all of Oshawa, Dan & Lea Kitchen, Jessica Danielle & Whitney Lea of Whitby, Mark & Cindy Cawker of The response to the last street- proofing programme in May was So unexpected, that we are having another one in September. Again we have arranged to hold it at 'Community Memorial Hospital' in the Library upstairs. In the classified section of the . paper, you will find all the details, so please read the ad and call ear- ly to register your child. We are again having a Parents Awareness evening, this time it is being held on the Wednesday before the kids classes on Satur- Courtice, Christie at home, and Sam & Mabel Cawker of Nestleton. An enjoyable party for all! Glad we didn't miss it! Nestleton Young People Attending College Paul Dearborn ... in Trent University majoring in English & History. Ken Weir at Durham Col- lege studying Graphic Design ... a two year course with a three year option. Clare MacKenzie ... Laurier College taking Honours Business. Arlene Davis in her se- cond year at Laurier majoring in anthropology - a four year honours course. Dwight Davis studying Electronics at Mohawk College, Hamilton. Tammy Street-proofing day. This was the only part of the programme in May that was a big disappointment to us. Although we had 92 children registered for the Saturday Classes, only 7 parents came to the information evening. Please, if your child is registered in the programme, one parent should be at the parent's awareness evening. It is at the Hospital Library (upstairs) at 7:00 p.m. September 14, 1988. Se- cond was Teresa Berkers .. right behind with 84. Third was Irene Train with 55. A tasty lunch was made by Connie Lyons. Kathleen Watts held the most lone hands for the month of August with 18. Port Perry Fair A Success We commend the Port Perry Fair Board for a most successful, interesting fair, even though the weather was a bit trying with rain and cold fall weather. The ex- hibits were excellent. The atten- dance was smaller no doubt BUT a great fair! We are looking for- ward to next year! A Successful Venture We take our hats off to the On- tario South district Women's In- stitute display and information centre at Port Perry Fair. They did extremely well throughout the three days .. publicizing the W.I. well .. serving delicious cookies and lots of freshly brewed coffee, which happened to 'fill the bill" on the cold days, answering ques- tions re- the W.I. organization and so forth. A great attraction for many folks! President Helen McKean and her committee did a "super" job! We extend a sincere thank you to all those who assisted. Nestleton United Church Greeting at the door on Sunday, Sept. 4, at 11:15 a.m. were Glenn & Arlene Malcolm and girls. After the call to'-worship by Rev. Dale Davis, Heather, Alison & Erin Malcolm sang sweetly "Morning Has Broken' accompanied by their mother, Arlene. Rev. Davis told the young folk a story before they left to attend S.S. classes. (Volunteer teachers are still needed). Sharing in the conducting and presentation of worship was Glenn Larmer, a Presbytery delegate to General Council. His topic was "Our Covenant Fami- ly". Closing hymn was "Be Still My Soul". Gwen Malcolm - organist. Take note that Thurs., Sept. 15 at 8:00 p.m. there is a meeting of Nestleton United Church Council. Try to attend! The General U.C.W. will meet at the Church on Sept. 14 at 8:00 p.m. Anne Emerson is in charge of the program for the afternoon unit. The guest speaker for the evening is Betty Luther of Toron- to. Betty and her husband Pro- fessor Luther spent five years in Africa ... and many beautiful slides will be shown to the group. Visitors are cordially invited to attend. Family Interests Lawrence & Gwendolyn Malcolm, Nestleton, visited Grant & Georgina Brooks and family, Port Hope, and Velma & Judson Sinclair at Emerson Beach recently. Bill and Ruth Cowling, View Lake, were Wed. evening guests of the Malcolm's. Marlene Bannister & friend, Roy Fitzgerald of Peterborough were guests with Neta Fish, Blackstock, this past Monday and they had a lovely dinner at Con- way Place Restaurant. Jim & Audrey Leishman, Reaboro, were dinner guests at Sunday noon with Neta. Bob & Clare Brazier of Orillia were overnight guests with her sister Yvonne & Calvin Holland & family on Saturday. Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Carleton of Carnduff, Sask., have been visiting their cousin, Marion Hall, Williams Point, for a couple of days. Cousin Elva Fleury of Brockville has been staying with Marion Hall for a couple of weeks, and will be returning home on Sept. 16. Scott Davis of Hyde House, Scugog Point Rd. is home again, after spending the summer in Edinburgh, Scotland, with his grandmother Christina Hender- son. Scott enjoyed the holiday .. but the weather wasn't that great .. had many gales, and storms, while there! We're glad to see Scott home again! Get Well Our thoughts and prayers go out to Rev. D. W.H. Crawford of Caesarea Community Church who has been ill .. unable to take the service on Sunday. Trust for better health soon. Best wishes to John Hall, a patient in Port Perry Hospital as of now. We trust for better results in the near future! Sympathy Extended We were saddened to learn of the death of a good friend Mrs. Flossie Ploughman, who passed away on Saturday, at Port Perry By L. Hamer & S. Graham Myrtle Church begins again on September 11th, following the summer recess. Our new minister, Mrs. Milnes, will be in charge of the services. Margaret Stevens will lead the Sunday School and all children and their parents are invited to participate in Sunday morning services. Ten- thirty (10:30) is the time. Square dance classes begin again on September 16, Friday night. This is a beginner class-and anyone is welcome to come. Register ahead by calling 655-4492 for details. Nestleton Presbyterian Church The congregation of Nestleton Presbyterian Church was pleas- ed to welcome Rev. Fred Swann to the pulpit, after his summer vacation. Joyce Taylor presided at the organ. The Psalm reading was 24, and the Scripture was Genesis I: and Revelations 21, and selected verses of Revela- tions 22. Rev. Swann based his sermon on some "Labour Day Thoughts' - "God the Creator of all in the beginning'; "God the Sovereign over the whole earth": "The sacredness of life and man's misuse of Nature'. Children of Sunday School age are invited to attend the fall classes just beginning. Next Sunday, Sept. 11th at 11 a.m., anniversary service will be held, with guest speaker Rev. Ron Van Aucken, and a guest soloist. A pot-luck luncheon will follow in the Sunday School Room. Myrtle news all_wish him well in his new status. Congratulations to Bill and Carol Blea on the arrival of their daughter Robin, born July 13th and also to Rob and Joan Garland's new daughter, Logan, born July 19th. Best wishes are extended to both families, a little late but not forgotten. Baseball season in Ashburn has come to an end. The kids all had a great time and a big thank you goes to all the coaches and helpers, for a job well done. The teams and their families have the banquet to look forward to, on September 11th at 5:00 p.m., at the Ashburn Park.
