The happy couple have known each other since they were younsters, attending both Bethel Public and Port Perry High Schoois to- gether. They were married at the home of Mrs. Wana- makers parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Mitchell, Sea- grave on September 3, 1938 and lived near the village until 20 years ago, when they they moved to Port Perry. Brookview Tony Charity, a Canadian and American grand champion Holstein many times, died at the Hanover Hill farm just west of Port Perry on August 10, four days past her 10th birthday. Owned jointly since 1985 by Hanover Hill Holsteins and Ro- mandale Farms Ltd., Charity was considered the nearest to perfection dairy cow. A spokesperson for Hanover Hill told the Star recently the death of Charity caused a great deal of sadness for everyone at the two farms. Aside from being a champion, Charity "had a real personality. She was quite the lady," said the spokesperson. The cause of Charity's death was described as "internal compli- cations" that happened quite sud- denly and led to her having to be put down. Never defeated in the show ring, Charity won an incredible four grand champion ribbons at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto, the last in 1987, and four supreme champion ribbons at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wiscon- sin, considered the most prestig- ious show in the United States. No animal had ever won four championship ribbons at these two shows, and it may be a long time before the feat is duplicated.
