} iE Grade niners red faced by Britt Lorish Once again, the halls of Port Perry High have been lit up with the bright red faces of embarrass- ed grade nine students. The occa- sion was, of course, initiation day. Friday's activities included such events as: charades, a lim- bo contest, 'Family Feud', the pop chug, and the usual favourite, finding the jellybean in whipped cream WITHOUT the use of hands. As well, the "minor niners" were coerced into roam- ing through the downtown area, in full costume, to sell toilet paper at 2 cents a sheet to prospective buyers. The girls, by the way, were dressed as Elvis imper- sonators, while the boys were clad in Dolly Parton regalia. A thank- you is extended to all of the downtown merchants who helped make the scavenger hunt so suc- cessful on Friday. Courtesy Day was on Thursday, and it was equally successful. Students in grades ten through twelve who were -wearing "tacky" neckties, were allowed to have their way with the grade nines at lunchtime. Most "minors" were found carrying books or cleaning lockers for their elders at some point of the day. Other initiation activities in- cluded the dance on Friday night, deejayed by Rob Franssen, and an excellent assembly on Wednes- day morning. Congratulations to Pam Smith, Tina Soomre, and Melissa" Kahn for making all of the activities so much fun! Picture day was Thursday, and students who had sold their first book of lottery tickets were able to take advantage of their free ac- tivity card. Yearbook picture packages were $22. with a card and $26. without. Lotto PPHS is now on its second week, which means that anyone who has not bought a ticket yet 'has only eight days to do so. The prizes for the lottery include a Yamaha snowmobile, an Amiga home computer and a Panasonic stereo.
