Mr. Duern, who lives near Uxbridge, has developed a distinct style of monotone for his paint- ings, many of which depict Toronto at or near the turn of the century. PORT PERRY STAR 235 Queen Street 985-7383 Kingston tour was enjoyed by nursing home travellers by Wendy Clark I certainly hope that everyone is taking in the fine fall weather we have been having. several residents got to enjoy the great weather while away on an over- night trip to Kingston. On Mon- day, Sept. 19th we loaded on a lux- ury bus and headed east. First stop was at Trenton for a delicious picnic lunch. Then on to Kingston City Hall where we picked up a guide who took us on a tour of the city. Sleeping quarters for the evening was at the 401 Valu Inn. The next morning we boarded the Island Queen boat and toured the 1,000 islands. Also on board we en- joyed drinks, lunch and entertain- ment. After the boat trip we head- ed back home and stopped off at Wendys for supper. For those unable to make the trip they were busy with baking, sing-song and church (by the Blackstock U.C.). . Wednesday, September 21st we had our "End of Summer Bash". Several residents joined in while we discussed all the activities that we had done over the summer months. Other programs during the week were euchre, crafts, bingo, baking, men's darts and movie. Over the last week of September we had bowling, quiz, make-up session, crafts, euchre, games, ice cream parlour and church (Emmanual Pentecostal). Tuesday (27th) afternoon we had our monthly birthday party which was hosted by the Scugog Island UCW. Everyone joined in on a gay sing-song and then all of our bir- thday residents received gifts. Special thank you to these fine ladies. Wednesday evening we had a "Puttin on the Ritz' dance. We had a very big turnout which (Turn to page 49) Scugog Skygazers to form astronomy club Catch a falling star! If you are interested in astronomy, why don't you come and join the "Scugog Skygazers". We would like to welcome everyone who is interested, in an evening outing to admire the nightime sky, to join our new group. The group is being formed by Charles Bull and Rick Mason. The purpose of the group will be to share our interests in studying the stars and planets. For instance, did you know that Mars is closer to us this year, than it will be again for many years. Our first meeting is planned for Friday, October 14, 1988, at 7 p.m., and all ages are welcome. There will be no membership fees. We will meet in a country set- ting so that you visability will not be affected by city lights. So why not dust off your star charts and telescopes, although telescopes are not necessary, you will be amazed at what you can see with just binoculars, and come join us. : Remember to dress warm and bring your flashlights.
