Durham beaches get cleaner bill of health The quality of the water at beaches in Durham Region im- proved significantly this summer, compared to the previous year, ac- cording to the Regional Health Unit. In fact, of 27 beaches, includ- ing three on Lake Scugog, moni- tored for fecal coliform Tevels in the water, just two had to be "posted" this summer for health reasons. Both are on Lake Onta- rio. The three Scugog beaches at Port Perry, Caesarea and on the Is- land, all showed marked reductions in fecal coliform levels from the weekly testing by the Health Unit, according to a report by Brian Devitt, director of Environ- mental Health Services for Dur- ham.
