32 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, October 18, 1988 Members enjoy banquet and trophy presentations Successful season for lawn bowlers The Lawn Bowling Club ended a very successful year with a roast beef dinner at the club house catered by Dorothy Lee on Oct. 14, 1988. The Club started bowling on May 17th and ended the mid- dle of September with an enroll- ment of 97 members. The new greenskeeper, Jack Owen, kept the greens in good condition. We bowled scheduled games on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thurs- day evenings and the greens were open for anyone who wished to practise or play on Sunday after- noon. Each schedule consisted of five games and we played three schedules for the evening games. Saturday's were open for tournaments. In June we hosted men's playdowns for our district. We had nine open tournaments dur- ing the summer with surrounding clubs supporting us. Many of our members visited neighbouring clubs from Orangeville to Cobourg and several times com- ing home with top prizes. In July some from our club were entertained in Richmond Hill to a friendly game and lunch and in August we returned the favour. On August 20th we bowl- ed for the Love Trophy, donated by Grace Love, which was our on- ly club tournament and following that we had a social evening celebrating our 2nd anniversary at our present location. The winner of the Tuesday night schedules were: 1st Minnie Martin, Joyce Storry, Sarah Brunton; 2nd Stan Williams, Jean Campbell, Gwen Crawford; 3rd Joe Forsythe, Leah Michener, Marie Cookman. The winners of the Wednesday night schedules were: 1st Dennis Smith, Allan Martyn, Pierre Le Duc; 2nd Joyce Stableford, Edna Smith, Gwen Crawford; 3rd Pal Marshall, Edna Smith, Anna Smith. The winners of the Thursday night schedules were: 1st Dorothy Follows, Dennis Smith; 2nd Anna Beaton, Dennis Smith, 3rd Gwen Crawford, Ann Cornish, Bill Gallacher. After all the playoffs were finished the overall winners to get their names on the 'George Stone" plaque were: 1st Dennis Smith, Allan Martyn, Pierre Le Duc; 2nd Joyce Stableford, Edna Smith, Gwen Crawford; 3rd Joe Forsythe, Leah Michener, Marie Cookman. Being olympic year a special playoff between the eight schedul- ed league winners was arranged and named the Gold, Silver, Bronze Series. The winners for this special series were: Gold - Dennis Smith, Allen Martyn, Pierre Le Duc; Silver - Anna Beaton, Dorothy Follows, Dennis Smith; Bronze - Joe Forsythe, Leah Michener, Marie Cookman.
