His experience in local gov- emment includes several terms on Scugog council and the former Reach Township council prior to amalgamation. He was also a school board trustee in Reach for seven years. Mr. Hunter was defeated in the 1985 election in Ward 1 in a close race with Yvonne Christie. The difference was 42 votes. Commenting on some of the issues in 1988, Mr. Hunter de- scribed himself as "certainly not anti-development" but a firm be- liever in growth in an "orderly fashion," in designated areas in the hamlets and Port Perry. He is an advocate of a "pay as you go" policy when it comes rec- reation facilities. He believes that sources of revenue to pay for facil- ities should be generated from the lot levy funds. Mr. Hunter said he supports such things as a second ice pad- banquet hall, but he's not sure the Township can carry (financially) a swimming pool. He suggested that Scugog might look into an arrangement whereby residents here could make better use of the Uxpool in Uxbridge.
