NOVICE In Novice House League ac- tion last week, Van Camp Con- tracting nipped Port Perry IGA 3- 2 in an exciting close checking game. Gavin Baxter scored twice in theopening period for Van Camp with Jeremy Heyworth replying for IGA.. In the second period, Troy Campbell scored an un-assisted oal to tie the score at 2-2, but ess than two minutes later, David Gainey scored what proved to be the winner for Van Camp. Shane Savage and Scott Jef- frey had the net-minding chores in this game. Steve Martyn and Jus- tin Sheehy collected assists. On Saturday, October 22, Re- max and Davids Hairstyling locked up in a see-saw match with Remax wining 4-2. Remax opened a 2-0 lead in the first on goals by Kevin Co- chrane and Ian Parliament with as- sists to Jeremy Gibson and Co- chrane. Glen McReady replied for Da- vids from Scott Harper, but Re- max went up by two again as Alex Dell scored from Shane Norton. Jay Fletcher made 3-2 with as- »13ts from Luke Newman and Da- vid Clouthier, but Remax got the final goal for the 4-2 win as Jere- my Gibson scored with assists to Norton and Colin Laird. Also on Saturday, Port Perry Printing. turned on the jets to0 de- feat IGA 10-0 in the first lop-sided game this season in the Novie H.L. Jon Reed was the big gunner for the Printers with five goals. Johnathan Froates had two, as did Paul Shrigley. Jamie Strickert had one. Paul Shrigley, Corey Brant and Chris Jamieson all had two assists in this game. Aaron Levy was in goal for the Printers and recorded the shut- out. ATOM SCUGOG LUMBER 5 GORD LEWIS 1 This game saw great goalten- ding from Ian Johnson in net for Scugog and Kyle McClymont for Lewis. Both teams moved up and down the ice with great passing but the Lewis team is still having trouble finishing off their plays. Jason Hopkins opened the scoring for Scugog receiving the pass from Matt Brown. Jon Jamieson got his first of the game with the assist going to Stewart Bruce. The 3rd period opened with Jon Jamieson taking the faceoff and beating Kyle with a shot to the top corner. This seemed to take the steam out of Lewis as Matt Brown assisted by Robert Gracie then Jon Jamieson with his 3rd of the day assisted by Matt Baker and Chris Drury gave Scugog a 5-0 lead. Lewis kept on fighting and finally beat Ian with Jason Vader assisted by Chris Vandermeer and Matt Baxter. This was the first week Lewis had their full team out and its just a matter of time before they get their first win of the season. TRIPP 4 WHITBY AUTO 3 This was also an exciting game featuring good goaltending. Both teams moved up and down the ice only to be stopped 'by Michael Wilson for Tripp and Ryan Diceman for Whitby. After a scoreless first Matt Phoenix assisted by Scott Swain got the Tripp team on the board. Then with just a few seconds left in the second period Matt Phoenix pick- ed up a loose puck beat Ryan Diceman with a great shot to give Tripp a 2-0 lead. Matt Phoenix with his 3rd of the game assisted by John Sax and Scott Swain gave Tripp a big lead to open the third period. Whitby turned up the pressure but were unable to beat Michael Wilson until Brandon Hammond scored from Darren Kinnunen connected. Just over 1 minute later Jason Brown assisted by Ryan Morton cut Tripps lead to a goal, with Whit- by pressing for the tying goal Matt Phoenix and Jamie Irvine broke away with Jamie scoring the goal to give Tripp their 2 goal lead back with just under 2 minutes to play. Whitby didn't quit as Jason Brown scored assisted by Gord Bently got them close again. They kept up the pressure but were unable to get the tying marker before the time ran out. This weekend sees 4 games go- ing on. Friday, Oct. 28th, Scugog and Lions at 11:00 and Lewis and Tripp at 11:55. Then on Sat., the 29th, Whitby and Scugog battle at 1:30. Closing out the action Lions and Gord Lewis hook up at 2:25. This victory improved the boys overall record to 5-1 as they enjoyed a successful preseason. Jeff Card led the way in Bowmanville scoring two goals. Todd Smart picked up a goal and an assist while Steve Desautels added one assist. This was a well earned victory as the Stone gang was playing minus two players so they were quickly tiring as the game wove on. Good job guys. This years Stone gang team consists of goaltenders Steve Stiles and Steve Gilbert, defenseman Mike Sluggett, Jeremy Norton, Aron Royle and Clay Scott and forwards Jeff Card, Steve Desautels, Todd Smart, Chad Garvock, Scott Wylie, Brent Harper, Mike Heasman, Chad Kearns and Neil Mueller. The team is coached by Peter Christie and he is assisted by Jamie Menzies and Gary Island. Ports next home game is Saturday, Oct. 29 at 8:45 against Lindsay. Come out and support this exciting team. Minor Hockey H.L. BANTAM Emmerson Insurance 5 Frank Real Estate 0 Although the score in the game was one sided, the play certainly wasn't. Frank Real Estate had their chances but were not able to capitalize on them. Peter Brock was the big shooter for Emmer- son Insurance with 3 goals and 2 assists. Chris McConnell had 1 goal and 2 assists and Troy Fisher had 1 goal. Frank Real Estate 3 Swamp Auto 3 Swamp Auto held Frank Real Estate scoreless for 2 periods, scoring once in each themselves. Ken Smart and Ryan Picard were the shooters for Swamp Auto. Cole Parry, Eric Grosvenor and Ross Stainton handled the scoring for Frank Real Estate. Kevin Brown tied the score with less than 2 minutes remaining in the game. PEEWEE Larocque Electric 5 Emiels 2 Steve Stiles opened the scoring for Larocque Electric with a goal unassisted. Again this week there was end to end rushing with both teams having many opportunities to score. Jeffrey Vernon tied the game on a nice pass from Steve MacDonald. In the final stages of the first period Steve Stiles scored again for Larocque, Chris Jellicoe and Jeff Fletcher earning the assists. Larocque and Emiels played an aggressive second period with Larocque's Steve Stiles earning his third for the hat trick. Jason Dunkley and Louis Whitfield (who was playing his first game back from retirement). In the third period Larocque scored two more close together. Louis Whitfield from Kevin Pearce and Mark Cosway from Sean Sauder and Kevin Pearce. Emiels tried desparately to equal the score but had difficulty fin- ding the target. Kyle Simms played a good game in net for Larocque as did Mike Pashley for Emiels. Late in the third Richie Tripp scored from Ricky Olaisen and Matt Coyne to end the game. Big V 6 Scala 2 Blair Beveridge put Big V on the scoreboard early in the game, Drew Royale and Chad Venning assisting. Scala equalled the score. Mike Leach firing one, Kevin Ellis setting it up. Blair Beveridge scored two more for Big V in the first. Brad Lemieux and Chad Venning assisting on the first, the second unassisted. This gave Blair his hat trick for the game. Brad Lemieux tallied twice more for Big V, Blair Beveridge assisting on both. Blair Prechitko assisting on one. Scala's Keven Ellis scored from Paul Zibert at the half way point in the third.
