12 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, November 1, 1988 Strange events at PPHS by Oliver Delhaise As mentioned last week, Hallo- ween is once again upon us, bring- ing with it the surprise Spirit Day and the annual Halloween assembly, both occurring Thurs- day morning. The school asked for volunteers to participate in both events, and our school spirit hele what it is, all positions were quickly filled. The assembly, in particular, had a very unusual act - Chris Ellins and Dean Stone, both students of PPHS, per- formed their coruscations, juggle- ing flaming torches, and perfor- ming both fire eating and fire breathing. It was quite an exhibi- Eugene Whelan to visit Durham This Friday, November 4th at 9:30 a.m. Eugene Whelan, former Minister of Agriculture will be in Port Perry at the Doug Moffatt Champaign Headquarters on Reach Road 8 (Port Perry Lawn Bowling Club). On a less fiery, although more sour note, there was a great tur- nout for the surprise event at lunch in the cafeteria. Mike Kosurko won the challenge, which was to be the first to eat an entire® lemon. But this is not the only thing happening in our cafeteria. Sponsored by the Milk Board of Ontario, our cafeteria is pro moting a milk drive, offering prizes ranging from pens to sweat shirts, for students who buy milk. See Nancy Imperial for more details. And remember also that there is still some time for you to place an order for citrus fruits, as mentioned last week. If in- terested, contact any PPHS music student. Again this year, Port Perry hosted a rugby team, this time from Olchfalts School in Swansea, Wales. Our team played against them but lost to their high-calibre game. Everyone enjoyed having them, and they enjoyed their visit, being very impressed with our school spirit. Keep it up, Rebels. And in other sports news, our school teams have been doing quite well. Our Junior Basketball team has only one loss, our Midget Basketball team will pro- bably advance to LOSSA, and our Midget Boy's Volleyball team has already won there. Special con- gratulations to Melissa Rodway, who placed third at LOSSA, first in Durham/York (DYSSA), and who will advance to OFSSA (On- tario wide) in Kingston next weekend. I hope you Rebels all enjoyed your long weekend, and the even- ing of Halloween following it. Also in keeping with the Halloween theme, here's a creepy closing thought: remember your report cards are soon going to be coming out -- can anything be scarier than that???
