It was one of those nights for the MoJacks as they went down to defeat 6-1 and lost 5-4 the previous night to the same Mer- chants. In fact, it was a rough week for the team as a coaching change was made Thursday night. Ken Harman has taken over the duties behind the bench. (see story for details) By scores of 7-4 and 6-3 Midget B's drop two On Monday, November 7, the Canadian Tire Midgets were the opposition for the Stouffville Clip- pers at the Scugog Arena. The game opened with Stouffville scoring two quick goals to lead the game 2-0 until the 4:57 mark of the first period when Port Perry net- ted their first goal on a nicely placed shot by Michael Butt. Assists on this goal were award- ed to Gerry Douma and Paul Kett. Port was trailing by one goal as the period ended. The second period also opened with Stouffville scoring two quick goals. At the halfway mark of the period Paul Kett flipped a quick wrist shot from the wing. The puck rung off the goal post to bounce into the net. Chris Carr was awarded the assist and the period ended with Port Perry MIDGET T - BANTAM T TOURNEY trailing 5-2. The third period also opened with Stouffville again popping two goals into the Port Perry net. However, at the 9:39 mark Gerry Douma took control of the puck in the Port end and headed down the ice. Exhibiting some fine stick handling and fast skating he was able to break through Stouffville's line of defence to score Port's third goal of the game. As the period drew to a close Gerry Douma and Paul Kett ~ made some nice passing plays to enable Michael Butt to score Port Perry's last goal of the game bringing the final tally to Stouff- ville 7 - Port Perry 4. The following Wednesday the Midgets travelled to Bowmanville where they suffered a 6-3 defeat to the home team. Perry team came on strong mak- ing some good passing plays and getting away some good solid shots on the Bowmanville goalie The defence, consisting of Jody Breen, Adam Cummings, Kevin Buscher and Paul Allen worked hard to keep the home team out of the Port Perry end. Gerry Douma and Marc Haina teamed up twice on passing plays resulting in two goals scored by Haina in the second half of the period. An additional assist was awarded to Jody Breen on Port's first goal. This period ended with Port Perry leading 2-1. The second period continued in much the same vein with Port fighting to maintain control. Gerry Douma played a strong se- cond period helping to set the pace for the next fifteen minutes. Despite Port's pressing play the period ended in a tie. After a break for resurfacing, Port Perry took to the ice for the third period. Suddenly the tables were turned and Bowmanville began to press hard. Although Michael Butt scored on a pass from Marc Haina, Port Perry could not seem to regain the con- trol they exhibited during the first two periods and Bowmanville scored four goals to lead the game 6-3 as the buzzer sounded. The Canadian Tire Midgets added three players to their roster for this game. Marc Haina, Paul Allen and Wayne Fraser showed great determination as they donned their blades and took to the ice in Bowmanville. These boys all played a strong game and are a welcome aadition to the team. It was a weekend the Port Per- ry MoJacks would just as soon forget. The MoJacks lost a pair of games at the hands of the Little Britain Merchants; 5-4 Saturday night on the road and 6-1 the fol- lowing night at the Scugog Are- na. That was the first regular sea- son loss on home for the MolJacks, and they were far from impressive And it was a week in which the MoJacks made a coaching change as Mel Brown and Garnet Warriner were relieved of their du- ties last Thursday night. Ken Harman has taken over as the head coach. He's a former Mo- Jack netminder who played several seasons with the team, and he has been working with the team for the past few weeks. On Saturday night in Little Britain, the MoJacks played a de- cent hockey game in a 5-4 loss to the Merchants, who sport a 7-1-2 record in the Central League so far this season. "After falling behind 4-0 early in the second period, the MoJacks came to life with two goals each from Greg Warriner and Brad Men- zies. Jerry Kea, the Marchant cap- tain netted what proved to be the game winner. Merchant netminder Rob Har- ris played a strong game to help his team get the victory. But it was a different story when the teams met Sunday at the Scugog Arena as the MoJacks had a dreadful outing and the Mer- chants scored three times on the power play en route to the 6-1 victory. Len Giacalone counted the only MoJack goal, a short-handed effort in the first period that game the team a short-lived 1-0 lead. Pat McGrisken and Kevin Bagshaw popped two each for the visitors with singles to Dave Hal- liday and Daryl Waines. The MoJacks could manage just four shots on goal in the final period as the Merchants broke the ame wide open with three power play markers. The MoJacks took some high- ly questionable penalties, and had all kinds of trouble killing them off. On Saturday night, the Mo- Jacks will face off against the NHL Oldtimers with proceeds to the Central Seven Organization. Tickets will be on sale at the door. Then Sunday night, the Mo- Jacks will meet the last place Ma- doc Hurricanes with face off at 7:30 PM. The MoJacks got the week off to a pretty good start on Tuesday, Nov. 8 when they skated the Bow- manville Eagles to a 2-2 deadlock on the road. Playing on the very large ice surface in the new Bowmanville Arena, the two teams resorted to a lot of close checking, and the Mo- Jacks were held a 1-0 lead after 40 minutes. John Hartford clicked on a first period power play with as- sists to John Harman and Kevin Gibson, up from the Port Midgets for this one. The Eagles tied the score early in the third and then the MoJacks went ahead on another power play marker by captain Thane Ellis. Jeff Fitchett and Harman drew the assists. But with under two min- utes in the game, the Eagles Shawn Rekker ma aaged to tie the score at deuces. The MoJacks did some good work to keep the Eagles off the score-board on the power play. Brad Bricknell tended the net for the MoJacks and tuned in a good performance, his second in as many outings. NOTEPAD: We wish Ken Har- man well as he takes over the tough job of coaching the Junior C MolJacks. One of his biggest challenges will be to build some camaraderie among the players. There has been some dressing room squabbling which has affect- ed the team's performance on the ice. Most observers feel the Mo- Jacks have the talent to be a better team, but there is a lack of "chemistry." On the brighter side, the tcam really has nowhere to go but up after Sunday's game against Little Britain. And the team does have 12 important points on five wins and two ties to date, which is a nice cushion to start from.
