46 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, November 29, 1988 Cartwright School hopes to raise $70,000 by Sibylle Warren Many of you might have notic- ed the donation boxes which have been placed in several stores in the communities who support Cartwright Central Public School. Parents of the School Advisory Committee (S.A.C.) are asking for your help in achieving our goal of $70,000.00 for school improvements. This amount may shock many of you, so I have decided to let you know what we have in mind for our school. First the primary grades need playground struc- tures so they will have something safe on which to play during recesses or after school. This type of equipment is very costly but it will serve our community for many years. We would like to have a track put in so that our future track & field stars have a place to practice. Our gymnasium facilities are utilizéd by our local high school so you can see we would all benefit from this. A track, on school grounds, would remove the great potential for serious injuries. Presently our children train by running on the streets of Blackstock. If possible, we would like to have an area paved for basketball and to be used for parking at our school functions. As many of you know there is virtually no parking at the present time. Some of the funds will also gc for more computers and musical instruments. Because of the increased population in Durham Region, the school board funds are inade- quate for any "extras" which we feel are an asseet to the ail round growth of our children. You can see all our needs are expensive. I feel that if we all pitch in through our donations and support our fundraising efforts, we can achieve this goal. For further information please call the school or 986-0155.
