28 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, December 6, 1988 Petites must settle for the silver medals It was a very busy week of ringette for the Bruton's 1.D.A. Petites as they began by travell- ing to Markham on Sat., Nov. 26 to take part in an invitational fun tournament. The girls were suc- cessful in winning 2 out of 3 games beating teams from Oshawa & Scarborough but fell to defeat to an Ajax squad. These 3 games were a learning experience for many of the girls as they played in different positions throughout the day. It was also a day to welcome a new player to the team. Welcome to Port Perry Joan. Goal scorers for this day were Amanda Webb 6 with 1 assist, Deanna Dempsey 2, 2 assists, Malmont boys bounce back The Malmont Atoms split a pair of back to back games against Bowmanville this week. Game 1 was held in Bowmanville's beautiful new arena. The home team jumped into a 4-0 lead by the end of the 1st period but both teams remained scoreless throughout the second period. With only 38 seconds remaining in the game, Port's Kenton LeFort picked up an excellent pass from Kirk Swain and rocketted it past the Bowmanville goalie. The game ended 4-1. Thursday's match up was a whole different story. The Green Machine knew they were the bet- ter of the 2 teams and they went out to prove that tonight. Both teams played excellent end to end hockey which meant goaltender Scott Prechitko & Ian Shrigley had their work cut out for them as they faced many hard shots and continued to frustrate their op- position with their outstanding stops! Fabulous work boys! At the 5:57 mark of the 2nd period Daryl Bourgeois netted Port's 1st of the night from a well executed pass from Jeremey Geer & Tim Fitz- patrick. Merely 30 seconds later Craig Laird attacked the Bowmanville net and beat the goalie this time earning the assist was Sandy Mark. Bowmanville managed to tie the score by the end of the 2nd period but this time with only 34 seconds remaining Jay Tredway put in the winner on a combined effort with Kenton LeFort. (I'm beginning to think that scoring in the last few seconds is becoming a habit!) The game ended Port on top 3-2. Great game boys! The Atom No. 1's next game is Friday at home against Stouffville at 8 FORD Lisa Dodd 2 and 1 assist, Brandy Harris 2 and 1 assist, Katherine Ellis 1 and 2 assists, Kyla McCrae, Vicki Stainton, Joan Anderson each with a goal and an assist. Leea Kinnunen passed her way to 5 assists with singles go- ing to Lynda Payne, Heather Lal- ly, Melissa Pereman and Aman- da Clouthier. The Bruton's I.D.A. squad then had an early Sunday morning practice to tune up for a visit to Bobcaygeon on Wed. night, Nov. 30. The girls must have learned their lessons well as they breez- ed by a very young Bobcaygeon team by 13-0. Scoring for this game were Brandy with 4, Vicki 3 goals, 1 assist, Amanda 2 goals, Deanna 2 goals, 1 assist, Heather 1 goal and 1 assist, Joan 1 goal, 1 assist, Leea 3 assists, Lisa, Jean & Melissa with 1 assist each. On Sat., Dec. 3 the girls hit the ice to take part in their home tour- nament. Our first game was at 8 a.m. against a team from Whitby with some excellent passing and good shooting. The girls came out victorious 7-0. Shona Moase played well in net and earned her shutout. Way to go Shona. We also welcome the return of Sarah Coyne to our ranks. Winning this game put us back on the ice at 12 noon against a team from Oshawa. This game saw Oshawa take a lead of 4-2 halfway through the last period but with a show of character that this team have, they managed to tie the game and with less than a minute to go pull- ed ahead for a final of 6-5. This win put us in the finals at 4 p.m. against an Ajax squad. In this game Ajax built a 3-1 lead in the first period but Port fought back to tie the game 5-5 before Ajax again showed their scoring abili- ty to finish the game 8-5 in their favour leaving Port Perry with the silver medal as they took home the gold. This was a very exciting game with Ajax pull- ing ahead in the final period. Accepting trophy Is Ajax captain Brenda McBride, while Shona Moase represents the Bruton Petites.
