Li ---- a EE ---- i... ee The Port Perry "Pearce Auc- tioneers" were busy during the past week playing 3 league games plus playing in a 2 day tourna- ment in Beaverton. On Tues., Nov. 29, the '"'Auc- tioneers" travelled to Bowman- ville only to be defeated 6-3 by this tough squad. The first period saw no score and the second period saw a 2-0 lead by Bowmanville. The first minute of the third period saw Daryl McEnaney tie the game scoring 2 goals in 33 seconds assisted by Seth Gray both times. Bowmanville scored 4 more goals and then Port's Derek Leeming scored assisted by Daryl McEnaney. On Friday, Dec. 2, Port Perry travelled to Cobourg and came away with a 1-1 tie. Port opened the scoring in the second period with a goal from Derek Leeming assisted by Daryl McEnaney and Joey Vanderleeuw. Cobourg tied the game in the second period while the third period saw no score. A fine effort by the whole team! The 'Auctioneers' then went to the Beaverton Lions Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 3, playing their first game at 12 noon against Fenelon Falls. The first period saw no score but in the second period Daryl McEnaney scored assisted by Seth Gray and then 27 seconds later Danny Robinson scored assisted by Mike Heasman. There was no score in the third period so Port Perry went to championship side with a 2-0 first game. Their second game at 7 p.m. Sat. was against Keswick and the 'Auctioneers' were still hot from the earlier game as they downed Keswick 4-0. With 7 seconds left in the first period, Rob Murphy scored unassisted. The second period saw Daryl McEnaney make it 2-0 Port also unassisted. The third period, the "Auctioneers" posted 2 insurance markers; one by Joey Vanderleeuw assisted by Dillan Weber and Danny Robinson, the last goal by Danny Robinson assisted by Joey Vanderleeuw and Kent Johnston. With that win, the "Auctioneers" advanced to the championship game at 3 p.m, Sun., Dec. 4, against Parry Sound. Unfortunately, Port Perry lost this game 9-2 but they never gave up as the score was 9-0 until the last 3 minutes of the game when Derek Leeming put Port on the PENS Pencils - Markers All Colours PORT PERRY STAR 235 Queen Street 985-7383 Silver medals for Novices scoreboard assisted by Adam Jones. Then with only 30 seconds left Joey Vanderleeuw scored assisted by Derek Leeming and Daryl McEnaney. Despite the tough loss the Auctioneers were still awarded a plaque and each player received a medallion for a pretty darn good effort. The boys finished up in Beaver- ton just in time to make it back to the Port Perry Arena for a league game against Bowmanville at 7 p.m. Sun. night. This being their 5th game of the weekend, saw a tired, but determined Port Perry team go down to a 7-1 defeat. Daryl McEnaney scored unassisted in the first 23 seconds of the game but Bowmanville con- trolled the game from here on in. All things considered, the Auc- tioneers had a pretty good weekend of hockey. The hard work and determination of these boys really appears to be paying off as is apparent in their ability between the first of the season and now. The progress is quite noticeable. The "Auctioneers" get another chance with Bowmanville on Fri., Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. in Port Perry. Donation for the United Way The employees of Hoover Universal in Port Perry raised $600 and the money was presented last week to the United Way.
