8 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, December 13, 1988 Christmas celebration More than 50 people, young and old, braved last Sunday's frigid temperatures (-20, celsius) to share some old-fashioned Christ- mas cheer. The families of Port Perry's Ap- ple Valley subdivision gathered Sunday at 7 p.m. to raise an ever- green tree in the community park, decorate it with lights, sing Christmas carols, and enjoy steaming hot cider and chocolate. The event was a kick-off for the area's Apple Valley Community Association, and provided plenty of neighbourly warmth on a freez- ing evening. Don Tansley supplied clectricit for the beautiful lights. He and his wife Margaret and neighbour Pat Dick helped organize the event. Even Santa Claus made an ap- arance, but a scheduled musical d didn't play because of the ex- treme temperature. In fact, the whole event lasted ony 45 minutes because of the cold, but as Apple Valley resident John Beirness said, despite the cold, "We just had a good old time."
