Unit Meeting On Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 13 the afternoon unit of the U.C.W. met at the home of Jean Adams for their Christmas pot-luck din- ner and meeting. After the sixteen ladies had assembled Mavis Brodie said grace and then all en- joyed the dinner. Grace Hall, unit leader opened the meeting with an informative reading concerning Larch Home Centres operated by the United Church and also the Denise House, Oshawa, formerly the Oberge House for battered women and their children. There is to be a day's meeting on Jan. 23 - 9:30 un- til 3 on Healing and Reconciliation with speaker Helene Hannal at the Denise House, Oshawa. Even jolly old Santa made a special Yt and brightened each persons y. Sunday, December 11th the Knights of Columbus Club visited and distributed candy bags among the residents. Monday (12) afternoon some of the residents boarded on a bus and headed off to Niagara Falls for a view of the 'Festival of Lights." We visited both the Canadian & United States area and admired their many decora- tions. The Convention centre located in the States was bright- ly decorated as 'Fantasy Land" and featured the Candy Land Ex- press. A stop was made at the Minolta Tower for a delicious sup- per. While there we took in a tour of the souvenier shop. On the 13th the Seagrave UCW visited and presented a lovely Christmas program. Everyone enjoyed singing the many Xmas carols and ate the homemade goodies that were served. A very special thank you to this fine group for making our Christmas season a little brighrer. In the evening the Hope Chris- tain Reform Church provided us with a beautiful service. The following day was manicures. - On Thursday morning the Catholic School children paid us a visit and entertained us with many Christmas songs. We all tho enjoyed the singing Saloys playing. In the afternoon some of the ladies painted silk scarves for Xmas gifts while the others joined together to decorate the 3rd floor. This busy week ended with a relaxing Bingo game. : Monday December 19 featured the monthly birthday party hosted by the Sr. Citizens Club. This terrific organization in their matching outfits sang their hearts out with many beautiful songs. A special thank you for the gifts, goodies and great entertainment. Tuesday, a small group baked several different festive goodies while others joined in the dining room for a sing-song. In the evening a church service was provided by the Scugog Island United Church. A special thank you to the many enter- tainers who kept the spirit high. They are Mr. Archie Walker, Mr. Clem Jeffrey, Mrs. Claire Whit- ter, Mike Green and friend. A Touch of Class and Mr. Cutting - the singing policeman. Also a thank you to the many family members who attended and made our party very special. And we cannot forget about Santa Claus. What would a party be without a visit from this jolly fellow. All the residents and families truly en- joyed the delicious turkey dinner that was served by our terrific kit- chen staff. The Friday before Christmas we spent the day relaxing (Lord knows we needed to) and sang a few carols while sippin' away on egg nog. The residents and staff would like to extend their warmest welcome wishes to many of our new residents. They are Mrs. In- ez Rowett from the Villa, Mr. Ken Dukelow -from Woddville, Mr. Earl Reader transferred from Dahiem Nursing Home, Mr. Johnus Davis from Oshawa area and Mrs. Florence Ellicott from Port Perry. Our sincerest sympathy to the family and friends of Mr. Merle Phillips who passed away on Saturday, Dec. 10th. Also to Mr. Tom McClurg's family. Tom passed away quite suddenly on Thursday, Dec. 22. Many residents and staff will certainly miss these two lovely gentlemen. At this time the residents would like to express their gratitude to the many entertainers, visitors, groups, etc. that made our Christmas season a lot brighter. On behalf of the residents and staff we wish you a very happy and prosperous New Vear Parliament Buildings dt Queens Park. For the program each person gave a Christmas Reading or gave some Christmas thought or music. The next meeting will be held at Dora Martyn's on Tues., Jan. 12.
