The meeting, which will start at 7:30 PM will be held in the Canadian Auto Workers Hall at 44 Bond Street, Oshawa. Guest speakers will include medical professionals. Phyllis Clarke, vice president of the CAW Auxiliary, said the meeting will be of interest to ser- vice clubs who may want to be- come involved in fund-raising for Nem on NN this special project. The last day of this week -was spent with a Bingo game or some of the ladies baked some delicious pies. Many residents gathered in the lounge area on their floor for a P.J. Party on New Year's Eve. We had the works - hats, noise makers, music, dancing, food, etc. What a fun way to bring in the New Year. To start off our first week of January we again had a bowling March with the top scorer achiev- ing 101 pts. Congratulations again to Becky Gray. Tuesday was a ~ busy clean-up day with taking down all of the Christmas decora- tions. Everyone chipped in and it took no-time to cover all of the nursing home. After supper the Blackstock United Church provid- ed us with an enjoyable service. Midweek we hosted the ever- popular manicures and also did some facials. Thursday was a craft day. We were all kept busy dying napkins. Finally, Friday January 6th, we had a challeng- ing quiz and then a fun game of Wheel of Fortune. Birthday wishes are extended to Mr. Bordon Barry (Jan. 6), Mrs. Inez Rowette (Jan. 10) and Mr. Harry Sanderson (Jan. 12). Upcoming events are our first ever Winter Carnival on Jan. 11 & 12. This will host several activities . such as King & Queen crowning, poster contest, snow sculptures, making (snowflakes, snowball toss, Chills 'n' Thrills Party, etc. We hope you can stop by and join in our celebration. "at YMCA underway Now that the winter season has arrived in Port Perry with snow, ice and cold weather, it is time to plan what to do during those fros- ~ ty days. The YMCA has designed a line-up of new and creative pro- grams for young and old alike. For children 3 to 5 years of age - the YMCA is offering a variety of programs. Creative Crafts will again be offered on Friday mor- nings This program encourages children to use their imagination and skills to create special crafts. Songs and games compliment this rogram. It runs for 10 weeks ob hor ooh January 13th and is taught by Diane Gray-Thompson.. A "new" program for pre-: schoolers is '"Music and Make Believe". This one-hour music, craft and storytime runs on Tues- day afternoons at the Anglican church," Through singing, hand action, movement, poetry and percussion small imaginations grow and grow. The YMCA has a number of programs of interest to school- aged children as' well. The new "Y" basketball league January 18th at R.H. Cornish School. The players will have fun while developing their. skills and the elnphasis will be on low-key competition and FUN. Also on the physical side, the Jackrabbit SKi Club begins on Saturday, January 21st at 10:00 a.m. This cross- country ski league teaches the fundamentals and proper techni- ques of skiing in a relaxed at- mosphere. Awards and badges are earned for newly acquired skills. Participants must supply their - own: equipment and transportation. Kids' Craft Club . also runs on Saturday mornings from 10:15 a.m. - noon and allows the children to create new and in- - teresting crafts and projects. Special days are featured and in this session special crafts like folk-art and leathercraft will be introdiiced. The popular Babysitting Train- ing will again be offered in both - Port Perry and Cartwright. The emphasis in this program for 12 year olds and up is on acquiring the skills and knowledge necessary for this position of responsibility. It also trains young adults in what to do in their own home should an emergency occur. Stage Stuck is a new theatre arts program being offered to children ages 8-12 years. This 10-week course will be taught by Zakeanna Reid beginning January 23rd and will teach the basics of theatrical production. The YMCA hasn't forgotten the | Adults in our Winter Programm- ing. On the physical side, we are - again offering 45-Minute Work- - out as well as a new Yoga pro- gram which combines physical posture, breathing, relaxation and a less stressful lifestyle.
